Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Getting ready to put this back together soon. Oil pump from Toyota has "AISIN 7" in the casting on the upper right, and Toyota on the lower left. (Also K 15 under that scratched into the metal.) I know that Aisin made this exact same model of pump for GEO and a lot of US cars at the same t...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Thanks very much again for the help on this. Just returned with a new cork gasket as well as other supplies. Cleaned the pan last night so that it is spotless. (Scraped off the silicon and used a brass brush on a drill to get every thing totally clean on the lip. Will do a final wipe with lacquer th...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Petros, Thanks SO MUCH for walking me through this step by step. I have done a fair amount of mechanical work but this is all new to me. Very cool to learn how oil pumps work together bearings and crankshafts and piston rods to float moving parts. Was not aware of how critical the oil pump was... un...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Sent a copy of your post over to Michael. I am sure he will enjoy reading it. Ten minutes ago I ordered one of the last two remaining oil pumps available in the US that were made in Japan by Toyota... for $190 from my local dealer... instead of $273 they originally asked for it. Having that pump out...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Larry, This information is really, really helpful. Thanks so much. Just knowing the circulation pattern of the oil is huge. Followed your logic easily about the path of the oil from the pump to the filter. Makes perfect sense, but not something I would be sure about otherwise. Good to know what not ...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Drrr...rummmm... rolllll,,, CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF OIL PUMP. See attached screen shot. Petros pointed the finger here or to the relief valve earlier. And Larry mentioned that the single galley from the pump goes directly to the oil sensor hole first. This all fits with the story now... since NO oil...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Thanks guys. I got a wheel puller from Autozone and it looks like this will work. I like that method you use Xerdneh. I can see exactly what you are talking about with that socket. Nice. Could have saved me a trip to AutoZone, but I needed some things anyway, so no further behind. Great advice. Real...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Larry, I got the bolt off the end of the pulley and then came back to check this post. Yes, now I know the bolt is right hand thread. The method I used was similar, and it did work. I took an 8 inch piece of 2 inch strap steel and drilled out the center with a hole large enough for the socket. Then ...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
I am tyring to get the bolt off of the end of the crankshaft right now. (It is not coming off easily). Can someone please tell me if this is reverse thread or not? Also, the FSM says to secure the camshaft to loosen the crank bolt. I think in the past that I jammed a socket extension bar in the hole...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Larry, Very helpful to know that the oil sensor attaches directly to the main galley. I di not know that. Thanks. I just pulled the oil strainer and took a look in the intake hole to the oil pump. That area is is very clean. No sign of dirt or sludge or anything like that on the screen or inside or ...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Larry, I wish that were true that I threaded the tube into a dead hole. But I am positive that the oil pressure guage (line with brass fitting)was threaded directly into the correct hole. It is the same hole that I removed the electronic oil sensor from ($12 part) that was sending the red light sign...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Larry: I know that I saw air in that line when I installed it. (Tube to a dial gauge that mount on the dash that I bought at the auto parts store.) I just went out and looked at the guage and tubing again. The line is clear plastic, and I could see into the line. I don't think that I ever saw oil in...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
NEW INFORMATION: I MIGHT NOT NEED TO REPLACE THE CRANK AT ALL. COULD USE SOME HELP TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY THIS ENGINE HAS NO OIL PRESSURE? I got under the car today and pulled the cap on the #5 main bearing...that was suppose to be cooked according to that out-of-town shop... and that bearing look...

Re: Engine Rebuild Crankshaft Questions
Thanks so much! This is extremely helpful. I have a few follow-up questions: 1) RE: "this is what I would do: find a shortblock/crank from a wrecking yard and just replace the crank shaft with standard size bearings." Are you suggesting to install this used Toyota crank in my block or to r...

Re: Reinstalling Your Avatar
Perfect! Thanks Tom. 3 minutes. Your directions were clear and precise... and it worked the first time. What a relief! Hopefully we can place your instructions in a location that will help the next person. From what I can tell it is not possible to use the the browse button to create a path back to ...
