Re: High compression results
My motor had very similar numbers at just under 150k miles. I did a seafoam soak, then the regular seafoam treatment followed by a combustion chamber steam cleaning with distilled water. Then I changed the oil and filter. It brought the numbers down to the mid-180's. I do not recommend the steam cle...

Re: 7af swap possibility... w/ my carbs
I do not think I would spending money on 4age performance cams, all of them are very costly and put the power curve way up in the 9,000+ rpm range. Not exactly good for rally cross or off road driving. A better and less costly improvement would be to use the stock cams but get some adjustable cam s...

Re: '81 corolla wagon, cobble hill BC
That is the 3tc engine coupled with the A40 Borg Warner transmission. Both are super reliable & they both are infamous for their totally boring lack of performance in stock form. I have owned both and can attest to their just shy of anvil reliability. The 3tc engine can be built up to very high ...

Re: Blue 194 LED's and the Yota
That does look nice. However the last thing I want when driving at night is any extra blue light in my visual field. Blue light is easily scattered in the eye and this often causes perceptual problems. It is also suspected, when in excess and out of balance, to be actually toxic to the photoreceptor...

Re: 22RE in a Tercel?
The 22re is waay taller than the stock engine. It also produces 137-142 pound/feet of torque and anything over 100 pound/feet is risking scattering the t4wd trans.
It would be an ok motor for a RWD only conversion as a much lower engine mounting location could be had without the t4wd trans assy.

Lancaster is out in the desert so this one should be rust free.

Re: Tercel Wagon not for highway travel?
Find a new mechanic. IIRC there is a really good one who knows the t4wd well in Denver. My "85 t4wd SR5 has been driven hard thru the Rocky & Sierra mtns. and also up many hot, steep & long desert grades with the A/C blasting & it will not overheat. First, make sure that the electri...

Re: WHAT SIZE LARGER TIRE WORKS BEST??
I'm running a set Michelin X Radial 185/65 x14 tires on a set of Mazda Miata Daisey wheels. They are 0.4" taller than stock and make the spedo more accurate.
Drives way better than the old 185/70x13 tires on stock rims.

Re: loud rear end
While it can be helpful in diagnosing a problem, getting under a car on jacks with it's wheels turning has caused many a horrible death. I agree that it is most likely wheel bearings. I'd just pull the axles and replace them and the oil seals behind them. I take the axles to the machine shop to R&am...

"$3K Alpine stereo with Sirius satellite"?? holy doodle. that's just a tad excessive, especially considering that the road noise in these cars makes music while driving almost equivalent to music while vacuuming. if i were that serious about music in these cars i think i would invest that...

Re: Wanted: broken tranny
Which gear ratio diff are you after? Kind of confusing as the '84 had the 3.73 ratio diff and the '85 up had the 4.10 diff.

The 5th gear is not within the trans on these cars, it sticks out into the front diff area FWIW.

hells bells, i was hoping you were going to chime in on this. i think you must lurk here far more than you post, 4WDC. that is great info. what i now want to clarify with you is where the vacuum leak is occurring, exactly: you said that the pintle shaft is similar to the stem of a valve, but it doe...

Re: charcoal canister and EGR carbon build up fix?
I remove the EGR from the motor , then you'll notice the hole get smaller from hard carbon stuff , I just use the small srew driver to scrape the stuff out , then some one show me to fill the other end with liquid , ifit hold then it is good EGR valve , if it leak through other end then you have a ...

Re: charcoal canister and EGR carbon build up fix?
Interesting reply, Petros ... Vis-à-vis the charcoal canister - last year when I wondered the effect of removing it and simply hooking up the tank return hose to a new fitting in the air cleaner, I received several differing opinions on the efficacy (and safety) of doing this. Since I had no way of...
