Well, I hope my 3A-C questions are not too naive... 1. Heat Control Valve: The FSM does not indicate that this is NOT on all engines, and I simply cannot find it anywhere on the manifold. Is it concealed by the heat shield - OR - does the Cold Mixture Heater System take its place on (some) engines? ...

Well, my '86 SR5 is supposed to have a 3A-C, per the firewall plate and specs. However, about 5 years and 800 miles ago (yes-the mileage is correct-it was only driven 800 miles from then until I bought it in April), the head was replaced with a used one due to cracking from a failed water pump. The ...

I get the same clunks at close to highway speeds that takza mentioned, and which he also mentioned the mounts were a possible cause. This was in an answer to my first post in April. So, I am looking to replace the engine and transmission mounts. The right front seems OK, but the left is quite spongy...

Enclosed is a message I received today from the source mentioned in earlier posts, with links. Tom M. Hi Thomas, Thanks for your inquiry. The valve is $108.63, but with our online discount your cost is only $78.37. We have set this up for you in our special order section. If you are interested in or...

The $78 price is good online, as I got as far as the last ordering info sheet (credit card number), when I decided to try my luck locally. An interesting note is that when I drilled through to the various categories looking for the TVSV, I could not locate anything like it, even using various permut...

I thought I'd add this about the TVSV: Most Toyota dealers (at least on their sites) have a common price for this item (which at least for the 1986 SR5 has a part number of 9092502076) of $108.63. I hit 5 or 6 sites last night, as well as called 4 dealers in STL today. For you in the Pacific Northwe...

Typrus - thanks for the tip on the fan. I will try that tonight. takza - thanks for the tip on the TVSV. Externally ours look identical. However, the insides of mine do not look like the one in your (excellent) photos. Mine has a much longer thin metal tube about 2mm thick and has a removable little...

TVSV and Cooling Fan - '86 SR5 Well, I think I fixed the starting difficulties, at least for May weather. I installed a new Bosch 12051 oxygen sensor and cleaned the several carb pivots I missed the other day. The old sensor was pretty burnt-looking and, I presume, 170K miles old. I also replaced a ...

Ted - Thank you for the info re the rear transmission mount. I will check it tomorrow (usual insomnia tonight). It does make more sense for this to be the cause of the clunk than the regular front mounts, although I will check them as well. It is difficult in the extreme to discover any info on that...

The Lou Fusz Network is a huge conglomeration here in St. Louis which sells just about every car imaginable. The site is http://www.fusz.com, and just follow the icons. There is a specific spot for parts, and then for Toyota specifically. It is one of the oldest Toyota dealerships in the country, an...

Hello - This is the first posting from the new owner of a 1986 4WD SR5 Wagon. Yep, I bought the gold one that was on eBay a few weeks ago. The best one can say of it is that it is totally rust-free. The seller, alas, was not entirely candid about its condition, but only partially through ignorance. I...
