Re: rear wheel bearings: what's wrong with this picture?
For anyone who might make this mod in the future, I just wanted to say that there is a clearance issue with the emergency brake lever. I have removed some material from the edge of the rearmost plate, and I will test that out, but the lever comes so close to the lower rear axle flange nut that a dif...

Based on my calculations, I predict 98 mpg +/- 17mpg.dlb wrote:...if the same diesel and electric engines and hybrid technology were put in any other reasonably aerodynamic and weighted car, like an early 90's corolla for example, what mileage would the corolla get?

...Goldie's Rust-Oleum paint (...) has been on for nearly two years now, with ZERO rust. ... I'll have to try your method next time Tom. I'm curious to see what your exhaust looks like almost 4 years later compared to my 6 months. I'm a sucker for punishment, so I tried the Hot Paint again on some ...

Painted exhaust: 6 months later
Here is an update as to the condition of my painted exhaust. It has been 6 months and a lot of the paint is still there, but there are some places where it is completely gone: painted_exhaust_6mo_later_1.JPG painted_exhaust_6mo_later_2.JPG painted_exhaust_6mo_later_3.JPG I would definitely leave off...

Re: 250 mpg vw?
hmm, a directional carbon fibre body / same production technique as Lamborghini Aventador = many $$$the carbon-fiber chassis is still some 80 to 100 times more expensive than one made from conventional stamped-steel panels

Re: moog cc247 spring for rear lift?
What I meant by the heat treatment is where you heat them up with a welding torch while installed in the vehicle, and the weight pulls them down as you heat them. Don't heat too much or you'll end up fully slammed. There has got to be a video out there on that. I seem to remember it was all the rage...

Re: moog cc247 spring for rear lift?
What about giving them the heat treatment like they used to do to lower front ends? Or chop off a coil?

Re: rear wheel bearings: what's wrong with this picture?
Thanks marlinh and Petros. These bearings came at a good price, and I didn't want to waste them because they are getting harder to find. I think this method will be plenty strong enough, plus, as Petros says, life will be so much easier whenever these axles need to be pulled again. It is a nightmare...

Re: rear wheel bearings: what's wrong with this picture?
The plate that bolts it to the diff housing is missing. +10 points for marlinh! And boy was I pissed after putting new bearings on both axles. In partial defense, the axle has been apart for months, and the old bearings have been off for about a week. Still a stupid move. But no sense going backwar...

Re: PCV Valves
My guess is that first, you have a PCV valve designed for a vehicle, then other years/models/engines come along and the engineers spec out the same PCV valve to reuse existing tooling or manufacturing overrun. When used on a different year/model/engine the PCV valve will get a different part number ...

Re: water bypass tube o rings
Too late for the OP, but I used regular inch size o-rings #112 once before and again just last week when the head gasket kit I got only came with 1 o-ring. The #112 o-rings are slightly fatter and fit nicely. Use syl-glyde or similar product to lubricate them when installing.
