Re: Aluminum plunger in carburetor

Peanut,

There is typically a little rubber puck that lands on top of the piece you’re looking for. I’ve got a parts carb at home (in CO for the Meet & Greet currently). These carbs/parts should be around, it seems nearly 1/2 of the Tercel peeps swap a Weber on.

Re: The Tersailor (REBUILDING)

Almost anything you purchase will work 3A or 4A, excluding pistons, rings, etc. The exterior of the block is the same. As a matter of fact, I purchased a 272 regrind cam when I rebuilt the 4A 70,000 miles ago. I didn’t know I needed either heavier OR double valve springs but used std springs. After ...

Thanks for the update, I’m sure you’ll work through the issues after Colorado. Travel safely, see you on Thursday, the Rusty Frog is ready to go (still need to load it though).

Re: Larry's tercel gets a 20v Black Top

Hey Larry,

Great to hear from you! Headed to Colorado in about 30 hours for an adventure. My wife and I would love to visit Montana, maybe next spring? I would love to see your Tercel and Styleline.

Re: The Tersailor (REBUILDING)

#3 looks suspect to me. It looks like I can see a “rust” colored line vertically down the cylinder wall?

Re: The Tersailor (REBUILDING)

Tersailor, I’m just a shade tree, hillbilly mechanic, but I think there is a spec for ring gap when you slide the pistons back in. For the life of me, I can’t remember how you would measure it? I would hone the cylinder walls and check cylinder dia. and possibly ring gap on the pistons. If it falls ...

No paper gasket there. There is usually the remnants of a thin metal gasket though.

Re: 84 T4WD Carb update

Good progress! I like to put a little grease on the new seals before putting the axles back in.

Re: The Definitive List of Ways to Lift a Tercel 4wd

Hello Rafe, Many of us are running 1.5”-2” lift using heavier springs and or spacers. Max tire height is right at 27”, though I am currently running (and prefer) 25.5”. A little extra stress on ball-joints and CV shafts, but I’ve likely put 80,000 miles on mine and I’m still running the original pas...

Re: 84 T4WD Carb update

Hey David,

There is an axle seal in the ends of the axle housing (both sides). Easy to swap out once the axles are pulled. I just did mine and I have a tiny leak on the driver’s side. If it continues, I’ll pull the axle and tap the seal a little further in the housing.

Re: 84 T4WD Carb update

David and Phatcat, Very easy to remove axles, no need to mess with brake lines. I’ve replaced a few bearings, but I wouldn’t change them unless there was some play when you pull them out and feel them by hand. I’ve always chosen to pay a shop to cut off the old keepers and bearings and press the new...
