Anything I do has to be able to serve as a tow point. Skids would be great, but not many places to mount them to, and they would be pretty expensive.....

I meant nothing against china manufacturing. I called Raxles and asked if he had shafts for our tercs and he said no, he wouldn't build 'em because he couldn't get new outer joints and he refused to grind joints. He said that if he couldn't build a part to his own personal quality levels, he wouldn'...

A grill guard and winch plate were on the list for the front, including something to mount lights on. Rear must have a tow hitch, jerry can holder, ax and shovel mounts, and spare tire carrier. I am also looking to build a roof cargo rack using some conduit and my ski rack mounts.

Bumpers

I'm thinking of removing my bumpers and replacing them with some steel. Basically, I'm looking to reduce the approach/departure angles. Any thoughts?

Anyone run these? I called Raxles in florida and Marty (great guy) said that they're pretty good but that they source a lot of their parts from china. I've also read some negative writeups on other forums, but not enough to form an opinion.

I'm in need of new shafts.

My typical driving is all cold starting short distances, and a heavy foot at take off. I average about 25mpg. My best ever on the hwy was 34.

Here's a little tidbit: I just got back from my local Napa (where I've easily spent over $3000 in the last 2 years.) I had gone in to let them know that I just installed this halfshaft and that it was already clicking and growling. My usual napa clerk started giving me the "well, ARI reman stuf...

The remanufacturer is ARI. I don't know much about them, but so far I'm not impressed.

I, too, use the flat end of the crowbar and a hammer. Thanks for all the replies.

CV Halfshaft Replacement Question

I just had to replace the drivers side shaft again, clunking while turning. I had a really hard time getting the new shaft into the transaxle, though. I still don't feel like it's in there all the way, but it is definitely tight. I know that there is a special tool Toyota has (looks like a horseshoe...

I've had this thought in my head for quite some time, also. I'd love to see a writeup and some pics!

Choke Question

Since replacing my carb, I've noticed that my choke works differently. With the old carb, I would set the choke, turn the key, and the tach would sit at about 1500-2000 rpm. It would then slowly creep up to about 3000rpm, and then fall off to 1200 or below (idle.) With the new carb, it starts off th...

A very close friend of mine has a '53 willys. He has custom Dana 44's at each end. The only problem is that he hasn't had time to re-gear the 4:88 rear diff to match the 4:10 front diff, so every time he tries to shift into 4wd the things bucks and pops out. Sounds like you got hosed. Pull the diff'...

While I do see and appreciate the humor in this, I just want to point out 3 things: 1. They are very stupid. Standing and/or jumping on the vehicle to try and rock it loose while someone is spinning the tires is, at best, idiotic. So is driving like a madman in a vehicle that has doors fallen off an...
