Re: 4A-FE/GE Franken Motor, With Carbs!
I used an oil pan adapter on my 7AGE build, but it was necessary to clear the extra stroke (and I still needed to do some hammering). The clearance shouldn't be needed on the 4AFE bottom end, so you could honestly get away by welding in a trapezoidal piece of sheet metal to the 3AC's pan where it wo...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project
Yeah, have done that on several previous projects. Our tie rod end is an easy design so thankfully won't be requiring anything particularly special should it prove necessary.

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project
Except the control arm isn't connected to the crossmember, it's bolted to the frame and it's only connection to the crossmember is through the sway bar end bushing which isn't going to change the angle of the crossmember. Being that lifts tend to put the sway bar under more tension than is typical, ...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project
Had a minute before some plans this evening, so got out to the Tercel and dropped the crossmember, put in the third 1" spacer on each side, and tightened it all back up to see if the intake manifolds would clear. And well... https://i.ibb.co/1LrRgq0/image.png https://i.ibb.co/6B7CmY6/image.png ...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project
So measuring from the bottom of the hood line to the top of the oil caps says the engine sits 2.75" above the hood line, right? If I put the hood back on and let it rest on the top of the oil cap there's only a half inch gap to get it to close. https://i.ibb.co/wMMYVKS/image.png Showing there's...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project
Update, 3" should be plenty to clear the oil cap, and there's tons of room to flip the manifold. Manifold is actually sitting higher than it would in this picture because I just slid it over the mounting bolts and it's actually above the ports, but gives you an idea. Will do some checking aroun...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project
Solid suggestions Petros! Your first option I hadn't thought about and I'd definitely need to find a machine shop for that. I'm sure I can do so, just going to take time as it seems job shops around here are few and far between. Everyone wants commercial business and I can't blame them for that. I'm...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project
Make no mistake the 4AG engine is fun, can sound good, and preforms well for the age of the design, but $600+ for manifolds that are, at best, just copies of someone else's design with the hope that they got it right (aka not even a basic CFD analysis) is exorbitant. Making the runners shorter is a ...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project
None that isn't theoretical. (read: I've just been thinking about it) I have both the FWD manifold (faces firewall) and RWD manifold (faces front of car) and both stick up above the lower hood line by 3 5/8" and the RWD manifold would be harder to fit as you still need to attach the throttle bo...

Re: The Definitive List of Ways to Lift a Tercel 4wd
Per their website they're $1090 for the base coilover and another $250 for the high lift option, so $1,340. Nice find, little rich for my blood considering success with what we have so far.

Re: 2nd Gen 4A-FE Swap
Even if you don't use the head for this project, a 2.5 hour drive for a 20v head is a no brainer in my opinion just to have on hand.
That said, using the 20V head is going to increase costs of getting this done if you're concerned with that.
