Re: Zach's 1985 Toyota Tercel DLX Hatchback
Plugged fuel filter? Also, how long has the cat sat? On one of my cats I find that the fuel drains back to the tank if it sits for a long time. Those pumps are pretty sturdy. If you have access to compressed air, pressurize the fuel tank at the filler neck. You will get fuel all the way up to the p...

Re: Zach's 1985 Toyota Tercel DLX Hatchback
I have no fuel pressure at the fuel pump (I checked at the hose going from it to the carb. This whole mechanical pump shit is weeiiiiiiird!) The car will fire up for a second with starter fluid. Timing is set correctly, and I also increased tension on the timing belt because it was all limp and I'm ...

I'll have to buy it a little later, unfortunately. Dad's getting pushier about us moving out of this house. The good news is, the Tercel is almost ready to roll out!

Re: Zach's 1985 Toyota Tercel DLX Hatchback
I think the lower cover is just horribly warped, as some of the bolts on it were loose enough for me to break loose. That PO really shoulda not been in there, Irowiki! I hope to god it's not the wrong pulley entirely, we cannot afford that right now. I think I'll go ahead and let the engine tear the...

A/C compressor and a steering rack? I don't know when I would be able to buy the A/C compressor, but we really need a rack ASAP.

Re: Zach's 1985 Toyota Tercel DLX Hatchback
MAJOR PROBLEM: I have the lower cover back on with a temporary duct tape patch, my Vibe's old crank pulley bolt (it's a higher grade and only slightly longer)...and the crank pulley is still rubbing the cover! Am I missing a shim or something?

Re: Zach's 1985 Toyota Tercel DLX Hatchback
The timing is now set, the plug wires are hooked up, and now I'm waiting on the RTV to cure on the lower cover. If this doesn't work, I will probably go ahead and reinstall it because I can't really do anything else until I get it on...I may go ahead and install the boots on the rack and leave the i...

Re: Rebuilding
California is a more complicated problem, you are not allowed to swap in any engine or engine parts that was not available for that cat in production, or as an option. You have to pass both an emissions test and a visual inspection. So that means 4ac, 4af, 4afe, 4age. However, not likely the inspec...

Re: Carmen
You if you have a third hand available, they can hold the housing/gasket/thermostat up tight against the rear housing while you screw down the two 10mm nuts to hold it all in place. But my wife gets grumpy when I ask her to hold my parts tight while I get the nuts out, so I use the sealant to hold ...

Re: Inner / Outer tie rod removal
The claw washers are absent on both the current/old parts and the replacement ones. I will have to find a torch to borrow, I guess. I don't personally own one because I haven't needed one until recently.

Re: Inner / Outer tie rod removal
all good advise above. sometimes the inner one can be a real bear to get off, for some reason they get stuck good. the usual pentrating oil usually does not go deep enough. You need a bigger wrench. A correct size open end wrench with ends thin enough to get onto the flats would be perfect but most...

Re: Where can I get one freeze plug?
I used a Clevite plug kit. The sizes are 3x35MM and 1x40MM. The 40MM is a pain unless you remove the starter.
