Re: unhappy with 80w-90 gear oil
Hey marlin, Sorry for the slow reply, I know that can be frustrating. Here is link to a blast from the past when I was making my decision. http://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12102&p=93219&hilit=gear+oil#p93219 I did choose the Amsoil GL-4 product and have had no issues (only...

Ok,
Still not sure who's going to press, but RA has Timken or National for $6. Any preference? O'Reilly's has the Koyo for just under $30.

Re: Rear wheel bearings
I called my buddy with the pipe bending press and he has a 12 ton press for bearings etc. as well. He even has some ovens after getting kicked out of the kitchen a few times. How easily should the "keeper" slip on once it's heated to 150? Do you still have to press it on? or can you just t...

Re: Rear wheel bearings
The boss' shop does not include a press, I have a buddy with a "pipe bending" press. I'm not sure if it could be made to work or would be heavy enough. It might be time to check Harbor Freight. How many tons is advised on the press?

Rear wheel bearings
So, It's my turn for rear wheel bearings. Passenger side is pretty rough, driver side less than smooth, so I figure I will do both sides. I'd rather do myself, as I trust the shops less and less on these older cars. That said, I consider myself a seasoned shadetree mechanic. My older son and I repla...

Re: Center hubcap clips needed
mrdance, Do you have any front corner lights for the SR5 (85')? I need one for each side. I could possibly use a headlight surround as well, but figure I can glue mine (got broken when I hit the deer). I'm not using my original wheels, so I'm sure I have the clips your looking for, or full center ca...

Re: Engine noise
Thanks for all of the replies,
Definitely noticeable at start up and first 5 mins or so. Most of my driving is hwy and after a 30 minute drive at 3,300-3,600 rpm, it sounds fine. Has anyone experienced a hydraulic lifter that is puny at start up, but does load up after driving?

I want to drive the car to the eclipse on Monday, would yall dive into changing this now or would it be safe to go 2k miles or so. I think its been bad for a while :/ Nik, If you have been living with the play, you should be ok. Not ideal, but likely not headed for a catastrophic failure either. Wh...

Re: '87 SR5 for sale
Hey Travis,
How well does the cruise work on your car? I picture the cruise control on one of these 5 speeds functioning more like a throttle lock on the motorcycle. 75mph downhill and 55 going uphill I assume your car still has the 3ac motor?

Re: '87 SR5 for sale
I'm in Omaha and crashed my Tercel4WD last week. Trying to assess whether the frame can be straightened, whether I want to sell it as-is, or buy another T4WD daily driver and keep mine as a parts vehicle. I'll have to see when I can get down to KC, but I'd love to take a look at this one. Hey loess...

Peter,
This is the same year, I believe the engine (3ac I assume) would fit, how about headlight assembly, hood, park lights?
TIA

Engine noise
Hey all, Just changed the oil today. I have noticed an engine "tick" for the last few weeks. After changing the oil I listened to the engine, I was hoping for lifter noise, but seems deeper. It is always worst right after start up and particularly under load. My gut/ear makes me think a be...
