Re: At long last! My first tercel
Put an order in for one. Should be here on Monday. I lost the o-ring on the primary solenoid somehow, too, so the kit will be extra useful. I don't think I have the guts to do a complete rebuild after messing up this simple cleaning...

Re: At long last! My first tercel
I broke into the carb a bit today. Just taking the top off in an attempt to check out the needle valve and clean it up. The gasket busted in the process :? , but all of the pieces are sort of still there...just stuck to either side of the carb. I'm assuming I'll need to get a new gasket for this one...

Re: At long last! My first tercel
Thanks, Tom. I didn't have any tubing like that, but I managed to rig up something with a small funnel and a beer box. Now I can't get the thermostat to stop leaking. I bought a Felpro replacement gasket no. 35383 that looks like this: Screen Shot 2015-03-10 at 7.18.35 PM.png It's pretty tough getti...

Re: At long last! My first tercel
Flushing the coolant and replacing the thermometer today...I'm having no luck locating the engine drain cock. FSM says left rear, but that's not helping me much. So in lieu of that, I was hoping I could use distilled water to flush whatever is left in the system. The thermostat looks good. Nothing i...

Re: what/where to check out in montana/idaho?
Stop by some hot springs! They're all over the place. If you drive along US-12 into Idaho over Lolo pass. There are a few right off the highway with good parking and nice trails. I could forward a hot spring map if you're interested.

Re: At long last! My first tercel
Awesome info, everyone. It's definitely helping me approach this all with a level head and learn to not assume the worst in diagnosing issues. Once I get around to them, hopefully this coming week, I'll post any improvements. And I think I've been convinced to keep the wheels. On that note, does any...

Re: At long last! My first tercel
Thanks for the tip. That should be approximately +20˚ F, but the tilde does look like a bit like a minus sign. Would the rough idle still be somewhat normal in that range?

At long last! My first tercel
I had some close calls when I was living out in Idaho. When I moved to NC a few months ago I thought I would have to be contracting a very understanding and patient friend to pick one up and hold it for me. Luckily, I finally managed to chase down my first tercel all the way in Charlotte, NC! I did ...

Re: 1984 $750 obo in Spokane, WA
Thanks for all the great information! Unfortunately, someone else picked it up before I could get over there. Maybe they'll be showing up on this forum soon. I fully expect to do most repairs myself and pick up some skills in that realm, but I'm thinking maybe I should wait until I don't have to mov...

1984 $750 obo in Spokane, WA
http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/4571140178.html Pictures show a good looking blue tercel. Seller says there is low compression in one cylinder. Right now I don't have the time to learn how to fix that problem, but what would I be looking at if I were to take it to a mechanic? Maybe I'm looking for...
