Re: Lost drive to front wheels

I found a mention of AT ratios in 2010. https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5872&hilit=AUTOMATIC+MADE+INTO+STANDARD#p43381 The front and rear diff final drive ratio on the A55F automatic transmission for the Tercel 4WD is 3.909 as stated in the 1985 Factory Service Manual on pa...

Re: '88 honda civic - bog/buck on hard throttle

I had a similar problem on my Tercel (idled fine, but when I gave it more than slight throttle like when accelerating from a light it "missed") . I figured it couldn't be the plugs since I had just replaced them among other things. Eventually a few days later, out of frustration, I replace...

Re: Camping with the Tercel

Ha! Those are great pictures of the loaded-up car. Fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants adventures make for the best memories. For camping this is what you need: obj5geo6pg1p68.jpg The pic's a bit small since it's lifted off my local diving website, but that's our old 1st gen Camry with an ancient car-top ...

Re: How far was your Tercel road trip?

mark, the fraser canyon is pretty cool, hey? when i was a kid, it was a tourist hot spot. hell's gate air tram was a big deal, but the whole canyon is pretty much a ghost town now. it's sad and beautiful, like a lot of small town USA too. next year we're going to do the badlands of alberta and some...

Re: How far was your Tercel road trip?

My longest was from Victoria (on Vancouver Island) to Haida Gwaii (formerly Queen Charlotte Islands). It was about 1500-2000 kms one way (over 1000 miles). We did the drive in 3 days each way, not including ferries. Since the coast of B.C. is cut up with deep inlets, there are no roads so you have t...

Re: $1,850 · 1981 Toyota Tercel SR5 - victoria, bc

you like the automatics, hey? you should try a manual trans and compare mileage/feel. http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/1985-Toyota-Tercel_20089792 I haven't driven a manual in many years. If I often drove on the highway it would maybe make sense, but in the stop and go traffic in the city,...

Re: $1,850 · 1981 Toyota Tercel SR5 - victoria, bc

According to this website: http://www.aboutautomobile.com/Fuel/1982/Toyota/Corolla+Tercel The '82 auto gets slightly worse fuel economy than the '84 2wd auto wagon. This doesn't make sense to me. I think the 1st and 2nd gens had the same engine in North America, but the 2nd gens had 3 more hp. Accor...

Re: Lookin for a tranny in AK 4wd 5speed man

I tried to find a replacement auto trans for mine when it failed and could find none in Western Canada. I ended up taking it apart, finding the failed part and replacing it using one from an old 2wd transmission that I bought as scrap for cheap. I'm not sure if the 2wd manual trans are as similar to...

You beat me to it. It's only a few blocks from my place too. I'm trying very hard to not be a vehicle hoarder.

Re: No spark, new distributor

I'm not sure if the ignitor has to be gapped on the 2nd gen Tercel. Maybe it's too far away from the rotor.

Re: Need Air suction (AS) connection

My '84 auto 4wd wagon's air suction system takes air from the engine compartment (not the filter housing) through a check valve and puts it right into the middle of my catalytic converter (not the exhaust manifold). I doubt any 2nd gen Tercels would have what you're looking for. Like Petros said, wh...

Re: Tuff Tercel Truck

On an old '84 Camry I used to have the temp gauge would do that: Suddenly shoot to max and randomly drop back to 1/2. When it shot up I'd usually pound on the gauge panel to drop it back down to a normal level. That told me that it was probably a bad gauge or wiring to the gauge. I never bothered ta...
