Re: Overheating saga..
Sorry, I wasn't clear about that: I do not have an aftermarket temperature sensor installed. Since this erratic behavior of my stock sensor and gauge, I thought I would put in a dash mounted gauge and aftermarket sensor in the port where the OE one goes (to have a more accurate idea of what's actual...

Re: Brake Up-grades MR2 Parts Vented Rotors Corolla Spacer Figs
This is an awesome writeup- so happy to know this is here when I finally upgrade my brakes next summer. Petros, thanks for all the effort you put into this and all of your tercel-ing, I've gotten to know this little car a lot more thanks to you. This is an extremely worth while endeavor, my wagon ha...

Re: BRAND NEW MONROE MA700 AIR SHOCKS WITH ADAPTER
thanks Mattel, I didn't remove it but I noticed it could use a couple rubbers. Put those monroes on this afternoon in a couple hours, so happy with how it rides up the driveway- anything is better than trashed shocks I suppose but I realized the noises I was chasing all over the front end this past ...

Re: Overheating saga..
Alright so here's an update post winter mazama trip. the head port on the 3a is too shallow for this aftermarket temp sensor, so I borrowed a laser thermometer and I monitor it with that aimed at the coolant outflow. even when it jumps high, I never get temps higher than 205 on the laser thing. I'm ...

Re: BRAND NEW MONROE MA700 AIR SHOCKS WITH ADAPTER
Alright, getting going on this now! Is it silly to just do the monroes for a week till these spacers (cutting boards) come in the mail? I sent Jim a message about spacers but I don't have anything on hand yet and I have a beatiful day to get at the rear and take care of my sag...

You know if there are any 1 inch aluminum spacers that are the right size? I can grab some cutting board too but those aluminum ones are Nice..

Re: BRAND NEW MONROE MA700 AIR SHOCKS WITH ADAPTER
Two open questions: 1) any good source for 1 inch aluminum spacers the right size? I might go cutting board since I keep things cheap but worth the ask. 2) With the Monroes, remove the rear stabilizer bar? My intuitions lean stock but I remember reading Petros advising that the rigidity is achieved ...

Re: Stock Suspension
I like both of these options quite a bit. jimcrazy : that lift looks perfectly practical and definitely an improvement over the 13 inch 175s I've got on my car. I like the pfinder route too though, both have pros and cons.. Did you cut the pathfinder springs teranfirbt ? without front spacers it see...

Crazy 22re bucking
Our truck is a 1987 xtracab pickup (yota) 4x4 with the 22re. It's a great rig and has been well maintained for many, many years by a friend. For a while now it's had this problem where when I'm accelerating in any gear things are smooth and fine but when I let off the gas, instead of transferring to...

Stock Suspension
So there's heaps of great information about lifting the tercel but what do people objectively think of the stock suspension when everything is fresh? My rear's got a sag and I can tell it needs struts back there, tempted to upgrade .. Front has fresh cartridges and it's great so far as I'm concerned...

saw this prepared fellow the other day. Notice it's taken from inside the caribou so it's relevant.

Re: Overheating saga..
Hey all, So _ overall the car is running great now, definitely a huge improvement to have a clean EGR and new exhaust valves, there's more power available everywhere but especially noticeable while climbing hills on the highway. The smell of coolant in the exhaust is gone (sure sign the head gasket ...

Re: Overheating saga..
Thanks Petros, and rer and jimcrazy and everyone else- The car has been timed. I had it a tooth off at the distributor, I guess I just was missing a tooth every time I tried, really easy to get it one late. There was also a crack in one of those plastic vacuum filters, and I swapped that with a soli...

Re: Overheating saga..
Had a similar problem years (decades) ago with my first Tercel wagon. Car had low power when I bought it, and I couldn't get the spark timing correct no matter where I indexed the distributor. Turned out the cam timing was off a tooth. I know you said you double (triple) checked cam timing, but did...
