Re: Tercel back on the road

Quick Update: I re-installed the catalytic converter. The exhaust volume is tamed down and my neighbours will be happy. Only thing is, I notice some roughness in acceleration. It seems less peppy as well. I'm thinking part of that is psychological since I feel more speedy when my tail pipe is going ...

Re: CV Axel Blowout

I recently checked my rear diff gear ratio with the car up on blocks. By putting a chalk mark on both rear wheels and also on where the drive shaft bolts on ( I had my drive shaft removed at the time). I turned both the wheels exactly one revolution and counted the number of revolutions on the drive...

Re: CV Axel Blowout

Ive had the cv axle pop out of the diff. It was not properly inserted so the circlip was not holding it in. Tell-tale was that it was leaking. On mine, the inner 1/8 inch (the bit on the end just past the circlip) sheared off and was sitting in the diff. I managed to pop out the piece inside and got...

Re: Radiator

The radiator is working fine. Only complaint is that the drain tap was stuck and the tap handle got stripped. I was having something welded back onto my car(a piece of the head snapped off - but that's another story!) and while I was at the welders I asked them if they could fix it and so they brais...

Re: Gambler SR5 - Introduction & mystery part

Looks really good!

If you do end up lowering the engine and trans, don't wait too long. Once your front cv axles wear in, they will not like to run at a different angle. I put 20,000km on a set and then when I dropped the engine/trans they made quite a bit of whining noise on the highway.

Re: Tercel back on the road

Another update on the front axles/wheel bearings. I noticed a trans fluid leak at the axle seals on the front diff. There was also a shimmy in the steering wheel on the highway. When I had the car up on blocks and rotated the front wheels, the transmission was moving sideways back and forth about a ...

Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

Petros, If you have old wooden handled mountaineering axes, those deserve to be on display. I have some old Stubai ice tools that might be worthy of a spot on the wall of my garage. I got under the tercel this weekend and it was the cv axles that were not quite all the way in and one was leaking at ...

Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

DLB Yeah, I know you are not in the T4-world right now. My recent axles were Cardone from Rockauto. I'd be interested to hear how yours work out. And I'll report back with my findings. I'm not actually certain that it's the axles until I jack it up and crawl around under there. I think I'll order so...

Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

DLB, I think one of my recently installed CV axles is leaking. I've replaced tercel axles about 5 or 6 times now and this time was the worst for getting the new ones in. I had to pound on the end with a mallet a lot. And in the past I've had one leak and slowly inch it's way out and shear off the en...

Re: Tercel back on the road

A couple of follow up points on this transmission replacement that snowballed into manual steering conversion, exhaust replacement, frame lift, floor repair, body work, suspension refit, hood scoops, gauges and a winch. Did I mention that it was up on blocks for 13 months. Thanks to parenting in the...

I've got a spare set of amber front marker lenses. I'm up in Alberta, Canada though. If you can't find anything closer then you can DM me and I'll send them to you for the cost of shipping.

Re: Verdict on AE86 & AE82 Springs

I recently did a bunch of work on my rear sway bars. The end link mount bolt snapped on me so I welded a bolt on there. I got new bushings for it from Rockauto. They only had bushings for the end links though.

Re: The Definitive List of Ways to Lift a Tercel 4wd

I agree that lifting the tercel to go off roading never ends well. I like it lifted for a bit of extra clearance and so you can run 14's. Handy on some out there logging/mining roads and in deep snow. Sometimes both at once! Looks good too! IMG_3629.JPG and here's a quick comparison pic banff-mar-08...

Re: upper rad hose pipe fitting on head.

dlb I agree. I'm just willing to own the mistake I made when the piece snapped off the head.
I can always pretend that most of the cost was for the radiator drain tap, which was none of my doing.

Re: upper rad hose pipe fitting on head.

I got some high heat JB weld. It's a stick of putty with 2 layers (epoxy and hardener) and you break off what you need and knead it with your hands then plop it on. It did not work. I cleaned up the area and took a small burr grinder to it to add some tooth. I gave it plenty of time to harden and it...
