Re: (Non) starting problem
You've got it right, although the biggest improvement comes from just replacing old, most likely corroded wire. Unless you're running some seriously huge audio, 4 gauge is ultimately a little overkill for a Terc, but is well worth it. During the recent cold snap in the Pac NW I had a few friends who...

Re: (Non) starting problem
It is heavier. I use 4 gauge mostly because I have about 30 feet of it that I bought a few years ago... 2 gauge will work fine but is overkill.

Shipping also varies by location... At school I'm really close to a UPS hub, so shipping there is about 15-20% less than shipping to my parent's house.

Re: (Non) starting problem
Any car this old I recommend completely replacing all of the major battery cables with new 4 gauge cable, especially the starter motor and alternator to battery positive. I also run a 4 gauge cable straight from - to both the engine and the chassis.

Re: Rock Auto vs. NAPA vs. AutoZone
It can depend, the radiator I bought from RA was $91 with $24 shipping.... Or $92 for another option that cost only $9 to ship, so it can vary.

Re: Seeking input on a Beck Arnley clutch kit
From what my friend's dad can tell (Toyota master tech for 35+ years), the Beck Arnley stuff is just OEM stuff in a different box. I've had one on the 2RZ in my Celica for a couple years with no issues or complaints.

Re: Front engine oil leak
Along with the oil pump gasket, I found that the main seal I had was old and kinda stiff and was leaking from the outside, so it was just dripping instead of spraying oil everywhere like a typical front main problem.

Re: Tire size Pros and Cons..
14's are going to have better tire selection in the sizes we need (most econo boxes from the 90's and early '00s use narrow 14" tires). In terms of handling, narrow tires are better for the snow and mileage, but wider tires will give you better grip in dry and wet conditions. In my opinion, a 1...

Re: Weberiffic! My latest install. (really big pics)
Quick tip for those who remove the stock fuel heater plate and have heat soak issues. Get a carb to spacer gasket for a 70's 2.3 Pinto (Fel Pro # 60225), they ran the Motorcraft version of the Weber and the gasket matches right up, but is about 3/8" thick made of an insulating material, my carb...

Re: Weber DG32/36 Questions
I'd look into getting a heated O2 sensor and air fuel ratio gauge to start tuning jets. If you know anyone with an assortment it can make things easier. You want to tune cruise just on the side of lean, and full throttle needs to be just on the rich side. There isn't a magical single jet size for an...

Re: Installing a new boot on the rack and pinion
All the boots are there to do is seal the rack from dirt and dust, they aren't meant to seal any fluids or grease... There isn't any reason to grease them.

Re: Replacing the clutch in Portland, OR...
Looking at the way the Tercel is set up, I'd guess it might be easier (and less painful...) to pull the engine out the top and change the clutch out of the car rather than pulling the trans... Granted, doing that means having to re-route all of the vacuum lines if the carb is stock.

Re: Cylinder head and cam specifications?
After having done work to my old 22RE (cam, exhaust, intake, throttle body, stand alone fuel injection, minor head work) and then doing an engine swap (basically stock 2RZ-FE) in my Celica, I'll say that the engine swap route tends to be more difficult in the short term, but cheaper and more reliabl...

Re: O'Reillys?
I usually don't order parts for my cars at auto parts stores, it's almost always cheaper on Rock Auto... That being said, I've had horrible luck in the past with Schucks, especially with belts... Not sure if that trend carries over.

I could see going from 20 to 40 if the old carb was running poorly.
