Re: Fuel Pump Failure

Have you tried running a hose from the fuel pump inlet, eliminating the fuel system from the pulp back, into a bottle or can with gas in it to verify the pump is bad?

Re: '91 corolla - gas tank hard to fill

You might check the venting hose that goes from the tank to the filler neck. I had that fuel fill problem with my ‘81 and found that the hose was kinked. If the hose is okay, it looks like there’s a fuel cut off valve on the tank that the hose connects to. If you go to partsouq.com and put the vin i...

Re: Repair Guides Library of Links

I honestly can’t say that I do, but I removed my a/c system. If it’s a Freon smell and not a gasoline smell, then you may have a leaking evaporator core in the hvac case under the dash. It isn’t any fun to get to, either.

Re: Repair Guides Library of Links

Yes, it will be the same. The engines remained the same from 1981 to 1987, so the cooling systems will be the same. The only thing I can think of in the cooling system that was different was the radiator/hoses. I recently had to change my radiator, but couldn’t get a replacement for my ‘81. I ended ...

Re: Repair Guides Library of Links

As far as digitally, I have never found one. I did find a Bentley manual on eBay, though. Here’s a link to one for sale right now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1980-1981-1982-Toyota-Tercel-Bentley-Repair-Manual-/400176151221 If there’s something you’re needing to repair sooner than it can come in, I can...

Rabbit trail, but isn’t that the Tercel I saw on Craigslist a couple years ago in Rogersville? Electrical problems from hooking up jumper cables wrong?

Re: Parts car

That is indeed an ‘83. How much snow did you get in StJoe? We were in Independence/Lees Summit Saturday and Sunday. We left at 11:00 Sunday morning. That was fun driving on 435 through the snow with three children in the van ages 22 mo to 8 years. And Petros is definitely on to something with the Ga...

Re: Parts car

The tenth digit of the VIN tells you the year (minus I, O, Q, U, and 0). If it is an ‘84, the digit would be an “E.” My 1981 has the letter “B.” An ‘87 is “H”, etc.

Re: Tercel4wd.com Midwest meet/greet??

I do have an '81 Terc 2wd 5 speed. Unfortunately, the family and I will be headed up to Warsaw that weekend, so I'll have to skip this time. Another nice jaunt is just north of where that comes out. Take H north to Tabor Hollow (dirt/gravel), then make the first right on to Red Bridge Rd (lower rout...

Re: Tercel4wd.com Midwest meet/greet??

I was waiting to see if there would be any other responses, but since it’s been several weeks, I’ll throw my two cents in. I’d be up for getting together. Since I have the first gen 2wd, I would definitely have to stick to mundane roads. As such, Springfield-ish sounds good to me.

Re: Oil Problems

NWMO is correct. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like you have badly worn rings, scored cylinder walls, or both. This is allowing oil to get past the rings up into the compression chamber resulting in the oil being burned and, conversely, allowing combustion gases to get past the rings down i...

Re: Power steering pump misfit to pressure hose

If I’m understanding correctly, the nut on the line has a section of smooth, unthreaded metal nearest the flare, then the threads begin farther up the nut. If that is indeed the case, aside from sourcing a new line, the only way to make it work is to cut the line, get a shorter nut, and reflare the ...

Re: Situation...steering link ball joint stuck

Most part's stores have a rental tool program. I know O'Reilly rents out "pickle forks" (tie rod separators) for a deposit that would be . That would be rather economical, considering the deposit is fully refunded upon return.

Re: Starter????Gear reduction???Direct drive

It comes down to a visual inspection. Typically the direct drive are larger, where the motor is substantially larger than the solenoid. Gear reduction has the motor and solenoid about the same size. Rockauto has photos of both on their website, so that should clear up any of my descriptive shortcomi...
