Shift Shaft Seal

I was just looking at Rockauto's Website at the halfshafts and happened to check out the manual transmission section. Does anybody know if the Shift Shaft Seal is the seal at the top of the shift lever?(TIMKEN Part # 221207)--You know, the one that makes shifting difficult because it lets water into...

Re: Tough clutch pedal and knocking

The high clutch force might be (as I found out the hard way) indicative of not wiping off the old grease inside of the throwout carrier  . I swapped over one engine for another along with the clutch and throwout bearing. I failed to wipe out the old grease inside of the carrier and also off of...

Re: Heater blower speed control

The resistor pack is a relatively easy no-dollar fix if you're up to it. Pull the glove box (2 screws), and the first two defroster tubes (also 2 screws). remove the one screw holding the resistor pack in (it's behind the defroster tube that's more to the center) after disconnecting the wires. You'l...

Be aware that the tranny and final gear ratios changed in 1985. If you have an 83 or 84, then it's best if you get a trans from that era, same goes for 85-87 versions. Also be sure that when you put the throwout carrier on to clean the tube that it rides on, clean out the old grease from inside and ...

I've always run Castrol 10W-40 in the Yotas, even in mid-January (~-20°F). Yota the first ran over 365k miles on it's (I believe) original engine-That motor is now in SR5, and running great. Oil changes at 3-5k miles, using Wix filters. When the SR5 was smoking and I was trying to get it through ...

Why not just remove the spring inside that tensions the clutch take-up? It takes about 25 sec and less than that to hook it back up. Tehn you rotate the plastic gear that the cable hooks into, and Voila! you have ~ 1.5" of play. reverse process to reassemble.

Yeah, the Spridgets are fun, , but when it comes to driving the canyons in the snow, the tercs always get you home-even when the snow is cresting over the hood . We were just shy of putting 300K on the '83 when it got taken out. It was on its fourth ressurection at that point. Now its...

No longer lurking-Long

I posted this in General category, but maybe this is a better place to put it. Well, after lurking in the shadows for about 18 mos, I've finally registered. I've had the first terc for 17yrs- It just saved my life 2 mos ago when some fool spun coming the other way in front of me. Combined speed abou...
