Re: Jesus clips-
I always use a pair of needle nose pliers for them, and before I pull them the first time (or install them the first time) I always bend the loop porti0n out-of-plane a bit to allow gripping with the needle nose. It also gives you a better look-see when reinstalling them

Radiator Musings
A couple of years ago, I replaced the radiators in both of the gold '85s with Spectra Brand plastic/aluminum radiators. At the time that I replaced the two of them, the plastic/aluminum was what I believed to be the only thing available. Late last spring, I had to replace the one in my sunroof car a...

Re: Mouse nest in heater fan, and suggestions for prevention
You might try a dryer sheet at the lower opening of the cowl drain. I've had the same problem with squirrel nests on top of my 460 V8 plow truck and my 4.3L V6- Igot the suggestion of using a dryer sheet from the Sprite forum, and so far no squirrel nests on my V8. Just be sure to put it away from a...

Re: Has anyone replaced a hand brake cable?
Thanks, I got it, with the cable frozen inside the housing, rotating it wasn't possible. The hose clamp helped hold the first one down, I just had to get serious with it I guess. Worse than that was the little guide grommet up by the balance bar-that took a while to get out as it was stiff a...

Has anyone replaced a hand brake cable?-Disregard-Done!
The wife's T4 has been having some trouble with the parking brake holding, since she's away for a bit, thought I'd take care of some things. New flexy front brake lines, ceramic pads, started in on the parking brake, and the cable is stuck in the housing. Now I have another whole backing plate, etc ...

I had my daughter use the stock jack to change a tire the other day, She thought is was a great job of engineering and compactness (Heading to her sophomore year as an ME major with a T4WD). Tom- The factory jack wraps inside and outside of the flange when positioned correctly between the two semi c...

Idle Oscillation Fixed
I haven't been around for awhile due to overwhelming auto repairs and personal stuff. BUT, I finally fixed the idle oscillation (1800-600) problem and subsequent crashing (stall) on the '85 Teal SR5. Long story -The wife was/is having problems with vapor lock on her '85, fuel filter full -float bowl...

Re: Intermittent no-crank situation in damp weather
The click-click is the solenoid contacts burning out. I get replacements for ~$6 total from my local starter/electrical guy. You CAN replace them without removing the starter, but its way easier with it out and on the bench. Just make sure to clean up the solenoid contact on the piston as well (some...

Re: rear window defogger wire repair
the carbon loaded glue might work, though I'm not so sure about its ability to resist the heat that is generated (really shouldn't be a problem, it just needs to be over 32F) , I'll check and see if I can find a manufacturer. What I use is a silver filled two part epoxy, its generally used in microe...

Re: rear window defogger wire repair
I've done this in the past using (as you did) painter's tape and conductive epoxy. The conductive epoxy is more expensive than the kit, but it's totally worth it as it won't flake off. I also used a small scrap of 1200 grit sandpaper with almost no pressure to expose the ends of the traces. IPA (Iso...

Re: Repairing that awful fuel sender unit
I never had a problem with sender units until I had an '85. the wife's was really bad and would never read anywhere near full. When I took the sender apart, I found that the wiper had actually worn away, letting the edge make contact at a level near 1/2 a tank. I cut, bent and wrapped a small piece ...

David- by not pumping the accelerator you allow the excess gas to be pumped out of the combustion chamber. You are also holding the throttle plates wide open which decreases the resistance to air flowing into the intake manifold. If its an Injected unit, refrain from cycling the ignition on and off ...

Re: Crooked Steering Wheel
I've run into the crooked wheel a couple of times with mine, It's usually accompanied by a broken rack boot and maladjusted tie rod ends. If you lock the wheel in the centered position, the driving wheels should be pointing straight ahead, if not, then your tie rods are maladjusted, and one of the r...
