Re: Just a wannabe for now :)

I have the same car as my daily driver and I agree it's a fantastic car. I've found that Rotella T6 5W-40 slowed down the oil burning. If you're used to the low rpm torque characteristics of the 7A-FE engine in the Geo, switching to a Tercel 4WD will be a downgrade. Average mpg with a Tercel 4WD wil...

Re: New Member - Need Advice on 4AC / 7AC Build / Rebuild

Delta probably offers different cam regrinds, but the mild street one is the 260 one. It shifts the powerband a bit higher up in the rpm range, which I figure probably moves peak torque past 3000 rpm, probably as high as 3400-3600 rpm. Peak hp seems to occur closer to the redline as the engine seems...

Re: New Member - Need Advice on 4AC / 7AC Build / Rebuild

You can get the car to pass CA ASM dyno emissions test with the Delta regrind cam (I have the 260 grind cam in my car). Even with a stock CR engine NOx emissions tend to get high during the test, so you must make sure the EGR system is working properly and you have a healthy amount of vacuum going t...

Re: Rebuilding

The Prizm came with two engine options depending on the trim model. It either has the 4A-FE or the more desirable 7A-FE (less common). Usually you can tell by looking at the under hood emissions sticker and it will tell you which engine it has. If that fails, you can always use a VIN decoder.

Re: 4afe questions

Notice how the underhood emissions control sticker says OBD Exempt. The 88 Corolla with the 4A-F already had OBD so these last Corollas with the 4A-LC were exempt as well as the Tercel wagons through the '88 model year.

Re: Heel Toe and Rev Matching

The tercel trans doesn't like it when you shift fast, most of them I have owned (7+) or driven have had crunchy shifts. It makes a big difference when you rev-match perfectly. If I hadn't done it properly I would've trashed the trans a long time ago and I have over 40k miles rev-matching my downshif...

Re: Heel Toe and Rev Matching

When you rev match perfectly you would be able to shift without the clutch (not recommended) and it's very smooth. I taught myself how to do double clutch rev-matching because the syncros were worn on my '84. I've been doing it ever since then and driving became a lot smoother that some people don't...

Keep your modern super car...

My friend sent me a link to this: https://autos.yahoo.com/news/keep-moder ... 03258.html

There's a few of us out there that share our strange love for this quirky automobile.

Re: Hello all

So if I understand this correctly your vehicle is failing due to high HC (unburnt fuel)? The last smog test place I took my 84 failed it because the rpm was 'out of tolerance' so it failed the timing check. I lowered the idle quite a bit (probably down to 600 rpm, although my car has manual steering...

Re: It appears that the first cylinder is not firing!!!

I had a problem with a cylinder not firing properly and it was mostly noticeably at lower rpms. It turned out that both the intake runner for that cylinder had a crack and the cylinder head also had a crack where that runner bolted up to it. Others here have reported cracked intake manifolds here as...

I hadn't noticed it has the skinny tires - P155/80R13. The SR5 wagons only came with 175/70R13, I wonder who decided to put the skinnier tires on it.

This is interesting... It's a CA car with the HAC system retrofitted, this is the first time I see this.

The A55F is the 3 spd automatic 4x4 trans. The manual 4x4 transmissions are the Z52F & Z54F...

You're right, those are the flat-top pistons that were supposedly discontinued in 2004. Too bad they're only standard size... I had been looking for the 1 mm oversized ones.
