I just completed my 400 mile drive into texas, at an average of 21mpg
Still sucks, I don't know why at this point. I fixed 5 vacuum leaks and have the advance set correctly. It still has trouble maintaining speed on the highway.

Re: Setting the timing
I set mine at 10 (I think) just to be safe
Still running good, it sits at about 15-ish with the vacuum connected
Adjusted the idle to 800 also

Re: Setting the timing
Well I don’t know if 13 is too much, so if I was going to reset it I would put it back down to 10
it seems to be running good now, it was set at 13 when it was running with no vacuum advance and I didn’t have any pinging issues but it had a definite dieseling problem on shut down

Re: Well shit. ..
Can't you take the car to a DMV and have them inspect it then restore the title from salvage to regular?

Setting the timing
I have read a few places on here that people are setting the timing at 10 degrees BTDC
I read somewhere else about it being set anywhere from 10-12 degrees, and I think mine is currently set at 13 degrees. Is that too much?
How much of a difference is it between the 10 degrees and 12 degrees

Re: Intake gas filter
Okay the carb cleaner worked really good to clean it out. It has much better flow through it and I put the engine back together, my timing now advances from 13 degrees to 15/16 at idle and the car actually starts easily. Hahaha Verified that my TVSV works now by letting the engine warm up and watchi...

Re: Intake gas filter
yes the top two are open, but going through the bottom it has a heavy restriction on it. I'll try to clean it out with carb cleaner

Re: Intake gas filter
Okay so in that one there is no air restriction when you blow air through it?

Re: Intake gas filter
I also found that it is leaking around the seal. I need to know if it is designed to restrict vacuum or if I can just drill a hole through the middle to open it up

Re: Intake gas filter
My car is Cali compliant, so one side of it controls the distributor advance, and the other side controls the choke-open feature I have just finished removing it and testing with a vacuum pump and it has very poor suction ability. This may be the cause of both my timing issue and the poor gas mileag...

Intake gas filter
I'm tracing my distributor advance vacuum issues and this seems to be where the vacuum should be coming from. What is this and where can I buy a new one? It's labeled as the "gas filter" on the diagrams and it's just a two port vacuum opening on cylinder #1 I have yet to find anywhere in t...

Re: Stranded on the side of the road, no fuel delivery.
I thought my pump was bad because the car wouldn't run without pouring gas in the carb if it sits for several weeks. I installed an electric fuel pump outside the gas tank and ran on that for a day and felt the mechanical pump kick back on again so I unplugged the electric fuel pump and now it's run...

Re: 4AGE Head swap - making the impossible into the possible
Factory ECU 4AGE will be much easier than a 4AFE since the distributor is on the side of the head instead of the back. Fuel system isn’t bad, but you’ll want to run a surge tank in the engine bay since the Tercel fuel tank isn’t baffled, which can lead to fuel starvation on an EFI pump. What does t...

Re: Distributor vacuum lines
I capped off the AAP so that won't be an issue anymore The distributor vacuum lines have a tiny bit of vacuum on them, but certainly not the amount that the service manual says would advance the timing from 5-13 when the line is attached (the timing doesn't look like it changes at all when the line ...
