You should never change/remove your aiming springs with halogen bezels.

A trailer would cost a fortune out here in california, interstate rental is twice as expensive, not to mention I'm an unlicensed driver - it'd be a disaster I'm sure.

Fair enough; that was a europlate housing size ATM but still that was a running driving car.

There's no reason, It can be assumed the drive train was still good (tranny probably still is too) still had some usable body parts and glass here and there.
A day will come when someone would have liked to have had those parts.
