Re: changing from 4wD to rear drive

Good point actually....

Though I do wonder about the front spider falling apart with no CV to hold it in? Guess thats not a concern here?

Though, with a new clip, it takes some massive wailing with a 5 lb slide hammer to get them out. So with a new clip I'd imagine you'd be alright?

Re: 62 horses in one hand

Lol... A 3AC block in each arm.. I'll have to get pics for ya'll... lol. Throw on the heads and it gets harder. Cranks and other rotating mass and it's down to one. Fully dressed and I can get it, just with a lot of grunting and groaning. Now, an Oldsmobile 215 V-8, with manifolds, heads, and no rot...

At the Zone its all Chinese and Mexican. Go Mexican if you can... Better quality control. O'Reilley's took over Checkers. Doing a great job in our area. Might even defect if they can offer me a good location. lol. Made friends with their district manager. ALWAYS. ALWAYS. Bring in your old part to co...

Re: poor gas mileage = vaccum lines?

Check all your dashpots. A mityvac will help. A cracked diaphragm can be a source of much headache. Ole' silver was doing 40+ mpg on my Colo Springs trek's. With a non-functioning vacuum advance and a "modified" vacuum routing. New gas will gum up carbs quick if allowed to sit. BG44k your ...

Re: Question regarding VVT-i motor

TDI.... If you're going to do something that is going to require adapter plates, flywheel finagle-ing and soon, just go for a VW TDI. 1Z or AHU would be good. ALH would be good too, just more to futz around with. 90HP and a lot of torque. Watch out for tranny longevity though. Did I mention it can g...

Re: Capped off pipe

You can get replacement lengths at Autozone on the cheap. Find the diameter as I don't remember off-hand. Or you can bring the cleaner in. The manifold gets hot alot quicker than the rest of the engine. Now, while I agree it'd be nice to disable it once coolant temps are say, 100 degrees, but it all...

Re: Capped off pipe

Your air cleaner is wrong for your exhaust manifold.

It is supposed to hook up to the air cleaner, as shown in the pic that tercel4wdrules posted.

Exhaust is supposed to come out of it.

Its the emissions setup we talked about.

Re: changing from 4wD to rear drive

Try and separate the CV cups.... The outers into the hubs, the inners into the trans to seal it off.... I've thought about this more than once, just haven't messed with the CV's to see if I can separate it. The rear diff doesn't really like constant solo duty though from what a few have found in the...

Re: springs cc214 not made anymore

You want the Pedders. They are great. I went stock height. While the car was in operation they worked fantastic. You can get a slight lift from them as well. Good product. I seem to remember $100 and some shipping? But it took about 90 days to get them.

Re: Capped off pipe

My vote is on the manifold to air cleaner connection, as in the air suction. Not the heat riser deal. Which it seems most of the ones I see have that sucker missing. But it really does help cold warmup, so long as its working.

Re: Capped off pipe

If I'm seeing right, thats coming off the manifold. If so, it could be that a carb was changed out. One version has a passage from the exhaust mani up to the cleaner housing. The other doesn't.

Re: Pistons..... hmmmm

Just get that head well cleaned up. I'd try for a copper head gasket personally. Keep it well sealed. The more metal you take off, the more it flexes, the worse it seals.

Re: Pistons..... hmmmm

Gotcha. You could always try and find a 4 series block. 7-rib if you can.
