Re: Manual vs Automatic

Would it be worth converting an automatic to a standard? What kind of difference are we talking about?

Manual vs Automatic

Do standards sell for more than automatics if they were in identical condition, and if so by how much. Just curious.

Re: low oil pressure on idle

One thing to note, driving a vehicle with too much oil in the crankcase can cause aeration of the oil in the sump when the crankshaft counterweight passes through. This causes air bubbles to be created in the sump which then gets picked up by the oil pump and travels through the galleries. Long term...

Re: Heat and cold control bar (Blue to Red)

I had a similar experience with a vehicle without AC. You could never get heat in the car. The control wouldn't travel all the way to hot. Something felt bent. I checked the heat valve in the engine compartment, even set it to full hot, flushed the heater core and it was still the same. When I repla...

Re: alternator dead?

Make sure the interior light hasn't been left on. Door switches all work if it isn't manually switched on. Not so noticeable in the summer.

Re: Clockspring (under horn button)

Our Tercels do not have a clockspring. They are found in cars with airbags, like you say. It is just a contact under the horn pad. Is your car a DLX or SR5? The horn pad pops off the DLX and has (I think) two screws holding it on the back of the steering wheel.

Re: loose lug nuts

Normally after tires have been removed it is recommended to retorque them after 100 km. All tire shops will tell you to come back. That covers their butt for liability. Alloy wheels do tend to have lug nuts come loose. Has to do with their composition I guess. It never hurts to once a month check yo...

Re: Subaru VS T4WD 80's Subaru Propoganda

I worked on many Subaru's in the early 90's. Never saw a Tercel come into the shops I worked at. Never liked the design of the Subaru, like the roll pins that held the front axles in place. Front calipers with e brake built in. It was never a quick brake job. Just trying to remove rotors, etc. I lik...

Post a photo of the pumpkin from the front of the car. I didn't think it was possible to install incorrectly, but a photo will tell for sure.

Re: Possible Dragging Caliper

You could have a rock caught between the backing plate and the rotor, or a bent backing plate. Rust buildup on the edges of the rotor can also cause a noise.

Re: fog light wiring - keep blowing fuses

The circuit feeding the lights, both the positive and negative should be a larger guage. Not just the ground. The thin wire running to the lights will heat up and blow the fuse. Increased resistance = heat. That can create a fire hazard. That is the purpose of the relay, to prevent that extra curren...

Re: fog light wiring - keep blowing fuses

You may have faulty lamps. I would temporarily connect other lamps (a headlamp perhaps) that have the same draw into the circuit and see if your fuse still blows. Run a temporary ground to the battery. What is the guage of the wiring you are using to these lights. If it is too small that could blow ...

I tried to get a new fuel tree locally where I live and both the dealer and aftermarket shops said it was no longer available. The tanks are though. Very strange.
