nathan fisscher - I think all of us are aware that each camp may "dislike" the other, so I see no point in your posting this on an automobile-related site. As MootsMan pointed out in an earlier post concerning another member's avatar, various generations view this forum. I think most of us...

sakhalin - My congratulations on your photographs, and particularly on their composition; they are not just "mud and crud" photos, but are illustrative of the scenery. Very well done! Your 8th photo, with the Tercel on the road with the mist in the background could have been used in a sale...

Well - I must say that it was a pleasure to look at. I wonder what is in the rest of his garage....note the kid driving gloves placed, oh so casually, on the console...the front lower arms look similar to ours-wonder if the bushings are the same? I wonder if there are any 4WDs in a similar condition...

2wagons - Yep, I checked the vac immediately from the carb and it is supplying a vac to the primary diaphragm. In fact, the actual measurements are: At idle, 10+ inches, and at 3K RPM, 20+ inches, each of which should move the advance. Again, the odd thing is that with the carb vac, that diaphragm w...

Further on the 2WD, if anyone is interested: 1. The o/s is silver and the i/s is black. 2. No sunroof 3. The radio works. 4. It did recently pass MO's emissions and safety inspections a couple of months ago, so the tires and brakes, etc., should be in at least a decent condition. 5. The couple said ...

This is a little off the topic, but I can vouch for the quality of the Jasper remanufactured engines. I had one installed in my '88 Dodge (Mitsu) pickup two years ago, and the thing is fantastic. Jasper really cares about the product, as I had a number of conversations with a customer service rep, a...

gus - What you are calling a choke pull down is actually an actuator for the engine to idle-up when the AC is engaged. It is the only thing on the bracket apart from the two EGR thingies, and is only present on AC-equipped cars (Federal, anyway - dunno about others). Check out a thread in Repair Que...

There is an '87 2WD automatic for sale in Clarkson Valley, which is a upper-end Western suburb of St. Louis. The mileage is 104K. I spoke to the older seller, and she said she and her husband have had it for 3+ years, and are selling it only because an '88 Camry wagon became available to them from a...

2wagons - YES - I have the identical problem (among others...). I have just finished trying every check in the wonderful FSM, and have concluded that at least the upper diaphragm is bad. The HAC is superfluous in my location (St. Louis), and I have tried disabling it, which had no effect, whether pr...

Mac -
Thanks, and it does make sense.
I suppose this must have been a problem with this engine, whence the band-aids of the manifold's front bracket to the block and the pipe's rear bracket to the transmission.

The front exhaust pipe bracket - the rigid kinda triangular piece which bolts to the transmission and has a flange to surround the pipe - was broken at the bolts. I fabricated a "reinforcing plate" to supplement the original, but am wondering if I should use it as is, or use it with a piec...
