Re: Bearing woes and some pics
The new ones all look like mirror images of the old ones to me.

Re: Bearing woes and some pics
yup, looks beat. The soft bearing material got hot and mashed it way out of the journal area, increasing the clearance. And it is worse at the rear of the engine, furthest from the oil pump. If you caught it early enough the journal should be okay, have you inspected the journal yet? How do they lo...

Re: Bearing woes and some pics
Right to left equal from the back of the engine to the front. So far I haven't been able to remove All the bearings from any shaft. Some are sticking very hard.

Bearing woes and some pics
I had to take a few days off from the car to repair a plumbing issue in my RV but I am back to Bb now and as usual she is fighting me tooth and nail. I seem to have really trashed the bearings (pictures will hopefully be attached.) and I am having real trouble getting some of them off the connecting...

Bearing cap removal
So what's the trick? I was thinking of getting some hooked picks with handles and seeing if I could work the point of one in to break it loose. I am stuck at this point and the weather is supposed to be really nice. If I don't get some suggestions I may just go play golf for a few hours today. I wan...

Re: Oil pan is out, no metal bits
I now have the nuts off the #4 bearing. How do I get it off???? It's like it's welded on there and I am afraid to get rough with a hammer or pry bar.

Re: Oil pan is out, no metal bits
After I finish this cup of coffee I will go out and see if I can get the #4 bearing off. This scares me a whole bunch.

Re: Oil pan is out, no metal bits
OK, plastiguage is purchased as is the bearing grease. 2 Napa stores hit this morning and neither of them had the smaller lube packets so I now have enough to do about 12 engines.

Oil pan is out, no metal bits
Maybe just a few small flakes of metal but nothing major at all. Is this a good or bad thing? No, I didin't investigate further. It's been a long day and I am tired. Apart from the connecting rod bearings is there anything else I should look at and if so what do I need to do and what will I be looki...

Re: The Terjunken won't start
Petros will back up my claim to almost zero mechanical ability but I put a new starter in Bluebelle with very little trouble.

Re: Lower engine brace
you should order a gasket ASAP, few repair shops stock them for a car this old, and it may take a few days to come in. This way it will be ready for you when you need it. The oil pan bolts have a torque spec in the FSM, but if you get them that tight it will almost certainly damage the gasket. I ju...

Re: The Terjunken won't start
It sounds like the same reason there is a new starter in Bb.

Re: Lower engine brace
Yes, every other bolt has required a 2 ft cheater pipe to break loose. The pan bolt I took off was easy with just my ratchet.

Re: Lower engine brace
No, you're right. I don't want to have to go thru this again so a new gasket and sealant is the safe way to do it. I'll try to have the bearings done by the weekend, pick up the gasket and sealant Sunday and hopefully have it all back together by Monday or Tuesday. Considering it's supposed to rain ...

Re: Lower engine brace
Good for you! The spline shaft on the steering shaft u-joint (thingy) is actually easier to deal with than one would think. If you loosen the other end (on the steering wheel side) and get it off. than you reinstall the cross member, and put on the u-joint after everything else is bolted in place, ...
