Re: Which Gear Oil or Differential Oil should I use? Personal Conclusions and discussion. Molybdenum additive use?
Hi all. Just wanted to give an update . And hopefully provoke some further discussion. On the 1986 Blue SR5 I’ve put about 3000 miles on a mix of Sta-Lube Hypoid rated 85W 90 GL4 with a 2% solution of Liqui Moly MOS2 for gears. I am happy to report that it greatly reduces gear whine and I’m satisfie...

Re: 1 ct diesel??
It’s a neat idea. I dug into the possibility a few months ago, a seized but complete diesel Camry came up for sale near me and I researched the possibility. Yes the diesel Camry engine that came in the mid eighties US market Camrys was the one most suitable for the swap. I got as far as you have; th...

Re: lost 5th gear
That is a huge bummer. Maybe was that rattle you heard before losing 5th gear a bearing getting loose and rattley. Too much play on the shaft wiped out whatever gear you were in. Or the works chewing up a gear tooth. Probably not the best idea to drive on it until you can disassemble and inspect the...

Growing the Tercel Family; 1983 4WD Butter Creme DLX
As many of you know one Tercel frequently turns into two Tercel’s. Last weekend I picked up another member for the family Toyota fleet! 994A15AD-5C4A-4F96-897F-BDD71F6B4210.jpeg A nice Butter Creme colored 1983 Tercel 4WD base DLX. It’s got 144k miles, rust free, fairly clean. It came with next to n...

Re: Rear shock absorbers wearing out unusually fast
Thank you for the feedback everyone. I’ll have to look into all the options as far as springs go. I’m not really looking to alter the ride height, but the ones on there for 265k were well used on dirt roads for many years and maybe some tired out. I got some helpful feedback from the Facebook group ...

Rear shock absorbers wearing out unusually fast
The dear Tercel is burning through rear shock absorbers faster than we can drive down the rough washboarded dirt roads. First Set of made in Mexico KYB’s were shot after 2000 miles. The latest set of NAPA made in USA only made it 800 miles. With new shock absorbers we get some time of good comfortab...

Re: WHAT TOYOTA ANYWHERE COULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY...
Sweet dreams are made of these. Are you being sarcastic? No. I am not. I am on here because I like these Tercel cars, and Toyota’s in general. I like you’re thread of dreams. It would’ve been nice if the Tercel’s were made beefier, with more options/ aftermarket support. They’re great cars but some...

Re: Front End refresh and miscellaneous parts review/appraisal
Update on Rear Shock Absorbers: The made in Mexico KYB Excel G’s part number KY343149 went bad after about 2000 miles. Didn’t run them hard IMO. Car was never loaded up real heavy. Probably about 500-800 miles on dirt roads. Never drove it hard on the dirt roads (~15-30 mph range). Going to try and ...

Ball spline cv shafts. Learn something new everyday. Sparing no expense on that beat down little turcel. Looks like fun! Thanks for sharing with the rest of us. Might be able to do a nice little side hustle welding for sale stubs on said ball spline axles for the “how I lift it?” crowd on the Facebo...

Re: Looking to buy a 4WD in good working condition
Oh wow, I would be honored. I'll keep an eye on that thread to see how it progresses. A couple of unrelated thoughts: 1) This car looks like it's in amazing shape, but it's pretty pricey (also far away). What do you folks think? https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pts/d/hesperia-1984-toyota-tercel-...
