Re: WTB 14" Wheels and miscellaneous parts
The 86 I drive seems to have crappy airflow because it has that extra mix in the heater controls. Blocking off anything else should help. I'll try it.

Re: In desperate need of help! (Backing plates)
I'm in BC. If you have no luck I may have a few spares. They are rusty but still solid.

How did you block off the ducts? Cardboard and duct tape?

Re: Smokes on start up...TURTCEL
That's what I do but I know of at least one member who puts string in the cylinder to keep the valves from falling in.

Re: Smokes on start up...TURTCEL
One way to tell if it's rings, is to follow your friend while driving down the highway. When they decelerate rapidly, see if it blows blue smoke. A high vacuum is created in the cylinder. That usually means rings. Compression rings on these cars seem to last but oil control rings carbon up and cause...

Wow, I have never seen that. There must have been some sort of stress fracture there already. Our cars don't have that much torque to snap an axle like that.

Re: Some basic carb cleaning and rebuild info
Thanks Xirdeh, Yes it ran like crap, that's why I chose to rebuild it. One other question was the clearance check between the needle valve plunger and the float lip. Very difficult to see and measure. Does the tab get bent that touches the base where the needle valve sits? The diagram in the FSM is ...

Re: Some basic carb cleaning and rebuild info
Upon further examination, it appears that the ball at the bottom of the accelerator pump is missing completely. In poor light it was hard to tell that I was looking at the contour where the ball should sit. It should have been there so I thought it was stuck. The washer at the top of the pump discha...

Re: Tercel hesistating to start
It is a little confusing as to what your problem is when you say it is hesitating. Is it cranking over at the regular speed with the jumper vehicle connected? If it is not starting but turning over there are only two possibilities, spark or fuel. You can disconnect the fuel supply line between the c...

Re: Some basic carb cleaning and rebuild info
I have undertaken a carb rebuild and have a problem trying to remove the ball under the G clip. It appears to be jammed in the hole. Is that possible? Did someone put the wrong size ball in it's location? How do I remove that without losing it forever and does anyone know the size of the one that is...

Re: AirCon regas
R134A is a smaller molecule than R12. So, after a conversion to R134A those molecules may leak out of a system that held R12 adequately. That is probably why they say it needs to be topped up every year.

Re: Frozen doors
I use stuff called Silicon Emulsion. It is available through GM dealerships, made by AC Delco. It works better than silicon spray which seems to last for a very short time, but it's great for windows. I would never use vaseline either. It is a petroleum product and could swell door seals.

Re: WTB-Windshields-Original (Used) or Quality Replacements
Don't know which part of the southern interior you are in but Castle Glass in Castlegar can get a replacement windshield pretty quickly and I have no complaints about the quality of their work.

Re: Clutch Adjustment?...TURTCEL
If the clutch engages close to the top of the pedal it usually means that the clutch is' worn out'. The pedal self adjusts. Normal clutch engagement would be closer to the floor.

Re: When should the timing belt be replaced?
100,000 km (60,000 m) is the usual interval although some newer vehicles require replacement as early as 60 000km. It also depends if the belt is contaminated with oil. That shortens their life dramatically.
