Will the camshaft fit a 3A / 3AC head?
Is it the same camshaft or a different grind?

Re: 3A-S head gasket
I took a couple pictures at lunch, but forgot to take one of the gasket surface.

Re: 3A-S head gasket
I don't have it yet, so no picture.
Thinking of buying it.
From what I've read here, it is a from a Japanese Market engine
It has those weird vanes on the intake ports, but it doesn't have the link (or any of the links) to keep the vanes pointed the same way.
It says 3A-K20X on the valve cover

Twelve hours is too far in the future for an accurate forecast.Petros wrote:looks like the weather forcast for that day is partly sunny, but it is still too far in the future for an accurate forecast.
I will try to get there, but my schedule is more unpredictable than Seattle weather.

Re: ZERO compression on number 3
Thanks all! Petros, you called it. When this valve damage is in its early stages, can it make a clicking sound? Because that clicking sound is gone now. Replaced the exhaust valves and stem seals, hand-lapped and gave the cylinder head a mild Petros treatment (it was already flat). http://i63.tinypi...

Re: ZERO compression on number 3
Squirted in some oil and tested again. Still zero. I saw on the Internet you can hold a piece of paper close but not touching the end of the exhaust pipe. I stretched a piece of standard copy paper about a quarter of an inch away. It definitely is momentarily sucking the paper in and the paper makes...

Re: ZERO compression on number 3
It was tapping for weeks, but I don't hear the tapping anymore.
I took off the valve cover and none of the rocker arms have huge gaps when the engine is not running.
That surprised me.
Is there some diagnostic test that would confirm it is a valve - sticky or burnt - before I pull the head?

ZERO compression on number 3
My Tercel started to run on three cylinders the other day. The day before, it was smooth. I did a compression check today and I have 0 compression on #3. Is it possible to back off on the adjuster screws on the rocker arms enough so that they don't open the valves at all? I was thinking of loosening...

Rear wheel seal installation
The Service Manual says to apply MP grease to a new rear wheel seal before installing.
Is that right?
Lots of grease or a little?
The first one went in crooked, so I am trying another seal...

Re: Bearing help near Seattle
Unfortunately, I bought a TIMKEN bearing from Rockauto yesterday. If I had a time machine, I would go to NAPA. Never expected to have this problem. Had the same job done on a Mopar 7.25 axle shaft, down in Vancouver about 10 years ago. Seemed like the same basic design. Well, I have a couple weeks t...

Re: Bearing help near Seattle
The shop that quoted 50 bucks last week now says they won't do it with customer-supplied parts or axle shaft already removed.
So, still looking for somebody who can do this near West Seattle/ South Seattle

Re: Bearing help near Seattle
I have been getting a variety of responses from shops out here. I am planning to bring them the axle shaft and new bearing and wheel seal*. Planning on bringing them the axle shaft without cutting off the collar, so they know which way to put the bevel. One said 2 hours labor $200+ One said 30 minut...

Bearing help near Seattle
I am looking for a shop around Seattle that is good at installing wheel bearings.
I am planning to pull the axle or knuckle and taking it and the bearing and seals to the shop.
The vehicle is a 1985 4WD wagon.
I'm pretty sure it's the right rear....
Any recommendations?

Re: Front wheel bearing size
Thanks. I gotta get some headphones or speakers and watch that video again (laptop speakers ng)
But now I think it's the right rear.
Had someone ride in back and listen.
