I second the brake upgrade. Worth the effort.

Re: midwest tercel 84 4wd
Fast idle is another system though the two are connected. When the car is cold, pumping the gas pedal in sets the carb in "fast idle mode". Tapping it again releases it. You want to set the fast idle on the weber for around 2k rpm or so. This will allow easier starts and faster warmup. I g...

Re: midwest tercel 84 4wd
There is some adjustment that can be done on the electric choke when the car is fully warmed up. With the air cleaner off, make sure the choke butterfly is fully vertical once the engine has warmed. If not, there are screws that can be loosened on the side of the choke allowing you to rotate the mec...

Awesome job. Isn't it a great feeling when you knock out a big repair like that and everything works better than it did before?

Re: The Air Conditioning thread...
I do. The corner is a little mushed but it seems functional. I don't remember which lines I have that are still good. A few twisted off when I removed them. You're welcome to all of it if you have a use. Maybe I could trade you for some parts off your junker car?

Re: The Air Conditioning thread...
I have a theoretically good a/c compressor if you need it as well as a bunch of other a/c parts. Didn't want to bother trying to get mine to work so I ripped it all out. I'm just south of you in MD too.

Re: Rear Brake Vibration
Did you use new hardware? Aftermarket brake hardware kits can sometimes be a bit too "universal" so they can use the same part number for multiple vehicles. I had that happen with my old truck where the pins were too long and didn't let the brake hold down springs compress enough to hold t...

Re: New Member with newly acquired 1987 Tercel!
I accidentally ordered a manual tie rod end for my power steering car. It was slightly longer. I did run into an issue installing it where I couldn't thread it any further on the inner tie rod and still had too much toe out. I was able to use a die on the inner tie rod to extend the threads another ...

Re: Steering column shroud needed
Well the shroud broke into several more pieces during the sanding process but it's back together now. This old plastic gets very brittle with age. Probably didn't help that this piece was sitting right under the windshield. The bottom half seemed much less delicate.
Painted black and looking good.

Re: Steering column shroud needed
I like it. That's the plan. Black will go with the new steering wheel too.
