Re: Click from front end

Btw, the original noise I had never fully went away. I thought I had it licked when I changed out the drivers side cv axle but it started coming back with increasing regularity and severity so I decided to chase it down today. The solution to this was the inner tie rods. Changed them out and the fro...

Re: 16v 7afe swap thoughts

Ahh. So there is no mechanical advance in the distributor? That makes the incredibly complex task of rigging up a belt drive distributor slightly simpler :D

Re: 16v 7afe swap thoughts

Distributor rotation direction doesn't matter, just have to reverse plug wire order.
Doesn't the distributor rotation matter when it comes to the mechanical advance though?

Re: 16v 7afe swap thoughts

I just realized that my distributor setup above has the distributor running the wrong direction. Damn.

16v 7afe swap thoughts

I have a potential opportunity to get a wrecked 96 Corolla with the 1.8 7afe engine for really cheap ($100) and it has me wondering if it might be a fun winter project to make it fit in this tercel. Based on my research on this forum and others I'm pretty confident of my ability to make it work in m...

Re: 4 blown headgaskets in 7 years on same car, why?

Does it keep blowing in the same spot? Overly tapped threads in the block allowing the bolts to loosen? Something blocking one of the head bolts so that it seems to torque down but isn't providing any clamping pressure?

Re: 1987 Time Capsule with 20k on the clock

Shipping from Japan to LA on a container ship is less than $1000. Someone should do it! I would except I wouldn't have any money left to pay the inevitable divorce lawyer bills such a purchase would bring on :D

Your price seems high to me. if you got it running and driving you could probably get a decent amount more than that considering the condition of the body. Have you tried car-part.com for what you need?

Re: chassis ground straps - will any big wire do?

I've seen 6-8 ga cable used before. Big advantage of a ground strap is its ability to flex easily without stressing the terminals but as long as the cable is flexible enough I don't see what problems would come up.

Re: Headlight Relay Harness Upgrade

FANTASTIC info!! That's what I needed to hear. I figured the cheapy housings I got weren't as good but I was more trying for proof of concept first. They are most definitely brighter and in that way a marked improvement over the stock sealed beams but that may be more attributed to the increased vol...

I don't think mine has a front notch. Maybe yours just got dinged at some point?

Re: Headlight Relay Harness Upgrade

The only potential issue I see in the future is that I didn't use new headlight plugs but individual spade terminals. The only headlight plugs I found at the local auto parts store had what appeared to be 18 ga wire and it seemed silly to me to run a new harness with much larger wire only to have it...

Headlight Relay Harness Upgrade

One thing I've been wanting to do since day one is to make the headlights brighter. Between the sealed beam style and the 30 year old 20 ga wiring that was woefully inadequate even when the car was new, my headlights weren't inspiring a lot of confidence. I ordered a H6054 conversion housing set tha...
