Re: 2013 California Smog Test & New Stricter Testing Require

On Oct. 20, 2011 I started a topic about my tercel which had just failed Ca smog. It was off the charts bad. Our members gave me many tips and ideas and my car passed with really low emisions.. I do not know how to make a link to the thread but you probably find it by the date 10-20-11. Tons of grea...

Re: '88 honda civic - bog/buck on hard throttle

Hi dlb. I did a search for "Honda Civic Bogs down" and got a couple ideas. The most common one was fuel delivery. One guy suggested looking down the carb's throat and making sure that it really puts out a good stream of gas when you you move the throttle lever. Fuel filter was a common sug...

Happy Little Tercel

My old reliable Tercel became the daily driver yet again. Yes, the usual daily driver, my '95 Honda Odyssey, suffered major engine damage. Some of you will remember me asking for advice about this Honda every so often. Two months ago It developed a loud knock in the engine. I dropped the oil pan and...

Re: honda civic: clutch chatter on low rpm engagement

It really felt similar to a go-kart. The seat was right on the floor and your legs would stretch out flat. The car was actually roomier, and less exspensive than the TR-6. The Triumph marketing people had to be careful how they represented the car so as not to hurt TR-6 sales. The engine was 1495cc,...

Re: honda civic: clutch chatter on low rpm engagement

I have never posted photos on this site, so see if I can figure it out. I just took a couple quick shots of some old photos. They do not show the car real well, so have included an image (the yellow one) that I found on the web. My wife would sunburn badly, so on some long road trips the car's top w...

Re: honda civic: clutch chatter on low rpm engagement

Hello Danzo, Well... as long as you asked.. and DLB said it was ok to hijack his thread... My spitfire was a '73 1500. I bought it in 1978. It was fun car for a college kid, and although I enjoy my Tercel, that Triumph was the only car to make my heart flutter. Yeah, she was my first car and my firs...

Re: honda civic: clutch chatter on low rpm engagement

I bought a used Spitfire when I was a kid. It had "clutch judder" when engaging first. I ignored it for a year or so. Eventually rebuilt the engine... resurfaced the flywheel, added a new clutch... no more judder!

Re: Overheating Mystrey - 95 Honda

Good news! The honda is back on the road. A new head gasket cured the problem. I did not realize that I could have good compression and a bad gasket. Once i cured all the external leaks, I could tell that the engine was drinking lots of water. Thank you to all my Tercel brothers. My 85 wagon was my ...

Re: Overheating Mystrey - 95 Honda

Thank you for the help Petros. -Tested the new thermostat (made thermostat soup :) and it opened fine. Put it back in car, properly oriented. -repaired heater bypass hose, used metal hose connector from hardware store instead of plastic hose connector from auto parts store. -opened bleed valve on th...

Re: Overheating Mystrey - 95 Honda

Thank you for the reply. I replaced the head gasket last June. The car had been losing coolant before that and I could not pass smog.... it had poor compression in a couple cylinders. I took the head to a machine shop, and a couple burned valves were replaced, the head surfaced and lots of rubber o ...

Overheating Mystrey - 95 Honda

You guys always come through for me, and once again I am not having any luck getting good info from any Honda sites. '95 Honda Odyssey; 4cyl, 2.2 liters; 200,000 mi. -last fall the heater core failed in a cloud of steam and water; I bypassed the heater core. The car ran well after this until: -3 wee...

Re: Ford Cortina Mk3 with a Tercel Engine 3A Vacuum Leak

Hi DiNka, I'm not always so good with technology. the tercel page you have looks different than mine. The page I go to has a Dark Navy blue banner at the top. I do not know how to link you to that page, but I bet one of our 4wd brothers up in the great white frozen north can explain how to get there...

I tried your link and my screen froze. Look at the top of this page for our link. It is very small print, right on top of the Donate button.

Re: Ford Cortina Mk3 with a Tercel Engine 3A Vacuum Leak

Welcome! There are smarter people than me on this site but I can direct you to the "factory service manuel" on this site. It is located right above the "donate" button at the top of the page. Took me a day to find it the first time. Go to the section that says "emissions&quo...

Re: what is idle speed in an automatic?

The Tercel does have a lot of vacuum lines! I completely forgot about the transmission throttle linkage; that was a good thing to check. I used to raise my idle to about 950 after my smog checks, but thankfully it runs so smooth now that I no longer have to do that. I miss driving it though. I will ...
