Re: How many miles do you average per tank?
I'm just a lowly beat up abused 1st gen, but I average anywhere from 27-37 miles per gallon depending on city driving, work driving, not flogging the car, etc.

Re: There goes the catalytic converter
So I assume the thing the cap screwed onto would be removed, then put some washers on said bolt, and tada? I think I'll do that instead of relying on my redneck style, thanks guys

Re: There goes the catalytic converter
Okay. I checked the bolts (all six of them) on the exhaust manifold and they were all tight. So I started her up and started feeling around (easier when cold since the rad fan isn't blowing everywhere) and found this with hot exhaust coming out of it: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-a...

Re: There goes the catalytic converter
The pipe from manifold to cat is covered in some sort of heat shield/skid plate, that doesn't look like it would go back on if I took it off, some of the bolts are very crusty!.
I do not know where those bolts are but I'll look when I get home!

Re: There goes the catalytic converter
It is still leaking, between the "test pipe" and the manifold. Or maybe the manifold is leaking. It is nowhere near as bad as before, when the car is moving you can't tell, if the car is stopped you can't really tell, but if I turn on the heater fan, it pulls in fumes. I did notice the car...

It's an elusive 89 model, with stikshift!

(I'm guessing it is actually pre 87 because of the lights)

This is pretty much temp, as we're probably going to buy another cat at some point.

Re: There goes the catalytic converter
Alright! Got everything back together using a section of flexible pipe for now. The cat was a bear to get off, the neighbor even came over and helped me wrestle with it! Y'all will love this, I'm soaking the cat in PB Blaster and wondering why it doesn't seem to be doing much. Wife comes over "...

Re: Is this the AAP?
If it wasn't for you guys I would have thought nothing of it, but I remembered "gas in vac line" leading to a bad AAP!
I used a little rubber cap on one of the ports on the HIC valve and it is dry rotted already.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/995821_395254027261148_189298065_n.jpg From about the middle to the right side of my carb there's a tube, if I pull it, gas comes out, is this the AAP, or is it something else? I thought the AAP was connected somewhere else, hence I am confused.

Re: There goes the catalytic converter
I don't think I have a rear axle? Sears had a nice 11 piece six point metric normal socket set on sale so I got that, I'll see if I can find any second hand stores for the rest I need. I need to find some sprayable ATF then! As far as gutting the cat goes, would there be an issue with the exha...
