Re: Front Differential

when my differential failed i felt a good shock travel through the gearshift, and a slightly audible noise, but it otherwise drove fine until i reversed out of the driveway and a half of a pinion gear made a hole in my front differential. without a doubt you'll have to take off the front diff cover ...

Re: oops! left out spring in carb

well, the accelerator pump is there to squirt raw fuel into the engine when you stab the gas to prevent stalling.

but since your car isn't stalling i guess its not an issue. I gotta say I'm surprised it's ok.

Re: madening rough idle

funny thing is I'm thinking that me hooking the vac to the dizzy is whats causing the problem (the advance/retard diaphragm is leaking). I'm going to definatley re-route the after-carb vacuum for the distributor to a common source so its not being taken from just the #1 cyl runner, that should help ...

madening rough idle

my tercel, despite me rebuilding the carb, replacing all the vacuum hoses, and quasi-rebuilding the engine and replacing the valves, still idles terribly. last night i swapped out my ignition coil for a spare i had, hoping that would fix my idle, but it seemingly made it run worse, so i bought a new...

Re: Need feed back on 32/36 weber!

well, look at it this way, it was only after manufacturers had to use a series of vacuum controls on carburetors that they decided to go to fuel injection. before all the emissions stuff showed up (weber era) manufacturers had no reason to use fuel injection. basically, all the stuff on the tercels ...

Re: Need feed back on 32/36 weber!

I'm sure a properly functioning weber will be more efficient than the stock carb.

unless you have a new OEM carb, all your vacuum gizmos are working properly, and no vacuum leaks period i can't see there being any way a weber will be worse for fuel milage.

Re: Help! - Engine Bearing Question

never thought about the manual transmission thing for the thrust washers. I'm lucky my crank was within spec. that sucks about having kids behind the counter, at my Toyota dealer Dan has been working there for years, he knows what i drive and always gets the right piece, I guess i've taken it for gr...

Re: AE86/Tercel(?) Stainless Braided BL kit

do you have a picture of the brake hoses? I'm curious what they look like, so i can see if a set of SS brake lines for a GT-S would work on my tercel

Re: Help! - Engine Bearing Question

If you go with aftermarket std size bearings, buy some plastigauge to make sure your clearances are A-ok.

when you remove the oil pan, you'll notice numbers stamped on the bottom of the block on the flywheel side of the engine, those are the numbers they were asking for at za dealer.

Re: mini update

thanks for the read, those shocks are cheaper than what i can get them for through work, but i can get the springs cheaper, so I'l probably be about even steven for the price. my front end has all new bushings too, sans the steering rack mounts, mine are shot, (oil leaked onto the driver side one an...

Re: mini update

sorry, i didn't take any pictures, I did alot of the work at night after 11:00PM and worked pretty quickly so i could get to bed. but yeah, the car runs great now, idles a hell of alot smoother, exhaust doesn't have an intrusive hydrocarbon smell (likely caused by the oil burning), low end torque/re...

Re: Clutch trick

I can get it off by hand fairly easily, part of it is practice (i've taken the engine out 4 times now) but part of it is probably it being an old car with tired springs, etc.
