Re: Burning oil.
You could have the cylinders sleeved if you can't find pistons. That's what I had to do on my diesel because nobody makes oversized pistons for it except Toyota, and they want $360 each for them.

Re: LSD Solution
Looks to me like phantom grip sells one that is specific to the Tercel. Here is the link. I was considering getting one and doing an in depth write-up/installation.

Re: Rear wheel bearings
I just replaced my rear axle bearings last year with genuine Koyo replacements. I think that my passenger side bearing might be going bad already.
Any ideas what could cause a failure so soon?

Re: My leaking tercel
They are both most likely just oil seals that have dried and cracked. The one on the power steering pump might be a bit of a challenge to replace without pulling it out, simply because the pulley will need to come off to replace it. I would say pull the pump, remove the pulley then using a couple sh...

Re: Gold paint code for 84
I ordered my paint from automotivetouchup based on what Toyota reference said it was and it ended up a perfect match. It took a few days for the color to cure to the dull blue. It sprayed on as a brighter blue but settled down after about a week. I imagine that even though automotivetouchup is calli...

Re: Banging noise when braking
I also have a mysterious noise coming from that area of my car although mine is more of a rattle. Sounds like chain clinking. I can't find it anywhere and I've been under it several times. I thought maybe it could be a carrier bearing but it also feels tight. I might have to put it up on my friends ...

Re: Genesis of the Tercel 4wd found!
A closer look at your roof racks please. Did you make them yourself? Yeah, I made it myself. I wasn't sure how it would turn out when it was just an idea in my head but I've gotten several compliments on it, and it has proven to be very useful. I'll try to dig up some photos of it for you. I had on...

Re: What is this vacuum diaphragm at the end of the Throttle Cable Bracket ?
I can tell you that it isn't cruise control. I have the cruise control assembly and the diaphragm has a cable remote that leads to the carburetor. The diaphragm itself mounts over by the coolant reservoir.

If you buy a new throwout "release" bearing, it will come with one.

Re: Unidentified Problem.
I would highly doubt the it has anything to do with the transmission. More likely I would suspect that the extreme vibrations cause an electrical or vacuum connection to come loose. Start looking around the engine bay for something out of place.

It actually had been parked there for some time. There may be a reason for it sitting in storage.

Genesis of the Tercel 4wd found!
Went to my storage unit and saw this gem parked off to the side. These were a somewhat unsuccessful first attempt at a lightweight 4wd wagon. I remember seeing them around. They were first offered in 1979.
