Re: New Toyota owner
Agreed: change the fuel filter first. Look at the air filter also, for the a/f to be the problem you describe, it would have to be pretty plugged up.

Re: Supercharged MR2 Motor into a '85 SR5 AWD Tercel?
i would not mind a t4wd body dropped onto a late '90's 'yota 4x4 truck chassis with the 2.7L 4 cyl. and a 5 speed trans. If it was a quality job where care was taken to get the body as low on the truck chassis as possible it could be a sweet setup. Those 'yota 4x4's will pull as much as 24-26 mpg hi...

Re: Thermostat Recommendations
Granted, they only have 16k on them, but I stand by my suggestion to replace your 7 year old upper & lower rad hoses. I will replace an upper rad hose every two years if the car is driven lots & leave it on up to 3 years if the car does not see lots of miles. For lower rad hoses I will doubl...

Google buggery. In most of the British commonwealth, in common speech and law, it refers to a rather specific act.
The Buggery Act of 1533 made the practice punishable by hanging.

I think he's referring to the 6 speed by t4wd!

Stock t'stat. Yes it is not the hottest one out there, but is the least likely to fail.
I'd replace the upper and lower rad hoses and any heater hoses that are starting to get brittle.

Re: Supercharged MR2 Motor into a '85 SR5 AWD Tercel?
The stock USDM 4agze from the MR2 was rated at 140 pound/feet. Over 100 pound/feet is risky for the t4wd 6 speed manual trans.
You could have the case and all the internal tranny parts cryo-treated to reduce the failure risk associated with such a significant bump in torque.

A stock silvertop 4ag 5 valve produces 119ft pounds of torque. Anything above 100ft pounds is risky to the manual 6 speed t4wd tranny.

Re: Supercharged MR2 Motor into a '85 SR5 AWD Tercel?
Are you talking about a 4AGZE supercharged engine as found in the USDM '88 & '89 first gen MR2's? If so, it is an even better way of scattering a t4wd 6 speed manual trans than the turbo silvertop you were talking about swapping in before. The 4agze would be best served by keeping it's stock ECU...

Re: 4AGE swap into 85 4WD
I took a close look at a 20v engine once and it was not clear if it has the same bolt pattern to mate with the transmission. This was a later engine design so there is no reason to think it should bolt to the Tercel transmission, have you check the fit? Does this engine use the same short block as ...

Re: Engine swap for '85 SR5
A turbo 4age will equal transmission destruction for the manual trans. If you really want a turbo 4age T4wd you would be much better off with a good working version of the automatic that came in the car. Even a healthy built 4ac can be risky for the manual trans.

4WDC, can you post a link to a decent vac gauge? i've heard them mentioned numerous times but am totally unfamiliar with them. i wouldn't mind grabbing one to have on hand. My vac guage is about 30 years old. So, not like I have a bunch of experience with what is out there these days. The Bourdon t...

A vac gauge connected to manifold vac can be used to diagnose a plugged exhaust system also. See scenario #14 in the following link: http://www.secondchancegarage.com/public/186.cfm No jacking, groveling, drilling or steel shavings in the eye... The vac gauge is the most underutilized diagnostic too...
