Re: Gambler SR5 - Introduction & mystery part
Last week I picked up a used set of OEM 8-spoke alloy wheels from a 2001-03 Prius. Tires are 185/65R14 Michelin Defenders. https://i.imgur.com/8IAHEy9.jpg https://i.imgur.com/B81Z5xo.jpg This week my focus is on the carburetor. Turns out my Weber is an Italian made 32/36 DGV 5A with a manual choke, ...

Hi, brucnich.
I'm new to Tercels too, so I might not be much help. But this forum is great and I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in before long.
Would you be able to upload a photo of your engine bay? That might help the diagnosis.

Re: old non-working forum links
there are some old links on the forum that will not work due to a server change that occurred a few years ago. if anyone comes across a link on the forum like this: http://www.tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3916&p=28985 all they need to do is click that old, non-working link to op...

How'd this turn out for you, FriendOfEvanW? I noticed his listing isn't active any more.

Craigslist Roundup 2/19/21
I'm sure I'm not the only one here who enjoys sifting through the classified ads. I used to love spreading the Sunday paper out on the floor and hunting for something interesting. In Oregon we had a free advertisement called Nickle Ads that was almost entirely used cars and parts. Good times. Anyway...

Re: Gambler SR5 - Introduction & mystery part
It runs!! Last week (after having replaced the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, radiator, plugs, wires, cap & rotor, etc.) I had spark but no gas was coming out of the fuel pump. I figured the fuel pump must be shot, but after replacing it I still wasn't getting any gas through the fuel line...

Re: 1984 Tercel 4WD parting out on Craigslist SW Washington
I believe the "1234" price is a dummy number. He's got several more cars listed all at the same price. I didn't ask him what he'd sell the whole thing for, but he seemed like the kind of guy who'd make a deal. I think you're right that it would clean up well. How hard is it to find another...

1984 Tercel 4WD parting out on Craigslist SW Washington
I came across this on Craigslist. https://portland.craigslist.org/clk/pts/d/kelso-1984-toyota-tercel-parting-out/7272324490.html The seller sent me a few extra photos. I was hunting for some interior bits but it's the wrong color. He says the engine runs but the transmission is bad. Thought it might...

The part is LILAND GLOBAL 813AA. I've got no idea how simon84 found this, but it appears to be a great find. Rock Auto show some US stock as do a couple of other places. $108.79 at https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/liland+global,813AA,radiator,2172 $124.13 at https://www.carparts.com/radiator/liland...

Re: Gambler SR5 - Introduction & mystery part
Thanks, Petros, I'll make sure to do that with the distributor. I went back and found your head gasket guide . In there you mention that the timing belt tensioner pulley should be adjusted so that the belt deflects about 1/4" at 4.5 lbs. All I have to check that is a digital luggage scale. I wa...

Re: Little 1984 Tercel, deep snow achilles heel
Simon84, Before I found a Spectra CU813 on Amazon I was seriously considering using a Camry radiator after reading your earlier posts. Looks like you must have been using one from a 1988-91 2.5L V6 Camry , since those are like ours but wider and with the bottom mounts shifted over a bit. https://i.i...

Re: Gambler SR5 - Finding Top Dead Center
Time for a quick update. Since the timing belt was broken when I bought the car, I had no idea where the crankshaft and camshaft were in relation to each other or how to put them back in the correct positions. So I got a $30 endoscope (thank you Adam Savage !) and peeked inside of cylinder #1 while ...

Re: Gambler SR5 - Introduction & mystery part
Brief update. Got the starter back (Walt's in Salem does excellent work, BTW). rebuilt starter.jpg Once installed the engine would turn but no spark and no fuel. Since both are mechanically controlled by the camshaft the timing belt was the obvious thing to check next. Removing the cover showed a na...
