Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

I haven't had much to post because I've been driving it to work everyday; not tinkering as much. I've put about 250 miles on it since Feb. the fuel gauge is still working, the electric fan is kicking on and the temp gauge is working, brakes are good, e-brake holds, it takes me awhile to get to 60mph...

Re: Mike's 85 FWD 5dr Tercel

I've only had mine since Feb of this year and started much the same way: Just cleaning and making lists.

Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

Work on the cowl has left a few to-do items, but for now I need move on. The rust in a couple places will get Por-15 eventually The screens are back on after soaking. They had algae and moss so a spritz of a mild bleach solution cured that ailment The wiper arms were cleaned up and painted. I bought...

Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

A pipe might work, the box my window regulator came in was pretty big, maybe it can coil just a bit. I'll keep pondering Finally able to paint the hatch. Been wanting to do this since day 1. I spent about an hour wet sanding over the past couple of days. 400, 600, then 2000. Tonight I used plastic p...

Re: Parts Washers

The link to dotheton.com is a motorcycle forum. It's an example of someone who went all out on their build: reinforced the legs, filter, added shelf, all black paint. I don't think I will go that far.
I bought a 40 gal solvent pump from Black Bull via Amazon PWP40

Parts Washers

I've subscribed to threads on garagejournal and the like in preparation for building a detached garage & shop. Space will be tight due to city ordinances. A parts washer station is definitely on the list. I'd be interested in seeing what you use as a parts washer, pictures would be even better. ...

Re: WATER PUMP - new - Gates - $6.50 Canadian!

Actually, after the first order went through on Amazon for less that $5 for the pump, I ordered another. I figure my car with around 90,000 miles will need 2 more in its lifetime. Box arrived with new part, unopened and sealed. It came with a gasket and O-ring. 41145 is the part number. With tax $10...

Cross member bolts with flange

(Updated thread to reflect Larry's answer below) What are the bolts for in the picture? Just curious really. There are two on each side of the engine. The flange/washer looks similar to what I had on my Stout with a 3R but it protected a hose line. I thought they were for 4wd models, but I see them ...

Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

Done with the roof line trim! It clogs with dirt and pine needles and with the dark blue color - I don't miss it. With lighter color schemes it looks very nice painted black, but I'm sick of fighting to make it look better. Off seems a better solution for me. (I will be reinstalling the rear passeng...

Re: Windshield Trim

I'm tired of dealing with my roof line trim. I took it off once and for all. My wagon is blue so I don't notice that the black trim is missing. It has scratches where I scraped off the pealing rubberized paint. Send a PM if you're interested. I need to find a box for shipping

Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

Thank you, very similar experience it seems. The junction of the roof line drip edge (as it comes down the left and right side of the windshield) and the cowl was plugged for me as well and it took upwards of an hour to clean it all. I had some surface rust to sand back, mostly on the arm that conne...

Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

With the wiper arms off, the cowl is next. I was relieved to read that the hood does not have to be removed. There are a couple screws on the lip and two plastic fasteners to pry up at either end. All were easy to remove and the cowl slides out. There is a rubber gasket that runs the length, with ye...

Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

Weather took another dive and once again it's too cold to paint. Time to tackle the front cowl and to do that, wiper arms have to come off. I've actually been working on getting them off for weeks but now that I bought a puller, they surrendered. Everytime I thought about it, I'd spray more lube on ...
