Re: Two unrelated items on the 'to do' list
OK...I just looked at the dreaded FSM and I think I understand what needs to be done to change the timing. A question....if it advances from 5 to 13 after the vacumn hose is reconnected does it go up past 20 from setting it at 10? And once again the FSM 'assumes' that I have knowledge that just isn'...

Re: Two unrelated items on the 'to do' list
On my last fill-up I averaged 29mpg. and had about 312 miles on the odometer. Right after that I checked the tire pressure and they were all in the mid 20s so I pumped them up to about 32. I am hoping that pushes me into the 30 range. I want to get some hose and just replace all the vacumn lines nex...

Re: Two unrelated items on the 'to do' list
Thanks, I looked at the sealant but have no experience with it so I wasn't sure how well it worked. The radiator looks like it is metal, it has green tarnish on the top of it and quite frankly it looks twice as old as the car. I would have thought fixing it would cost more then a new one with labor ...

Two unrelated items on the 'to do' list
1. My gas guage is reading all over the map when the tank is full. From 3/4s to 1/4 and back again. The low fuel light does come on when there is appr. 3 gallons of fuel left in the tank. Is this some sort of 'sender problem' or is the guage going on me? 2. My rear defroster isn't working. I took a ...

Re: Heater switch question
That looks pretty easy. I will be haunting pick and pulls soon to find a replacement. Thank you.

Re: Windows, doors and interior light.
Ok, maybe....how hard is it to get the clip back on? =quote] i think you can install the clip to the handle and pop the handle on with the palm of your hand. (but i have not tried it) i usually get the clip so its barely on the handle then slide it over the shaft and use a thin screwdriver to push ...

Re: Windows, doors and interior light.
Ok, maybe....how hard is it to get the clip back on? :? You guys and the FSM...I need a guide to car care for idiots. I had one similarly titled for a old subaru that I had and even that got too technical at times. The people that write them assume there is a knowledge level that isn't always in pla...

Re: Heater switch question
Check the blower motor resistor, its behind the control panel, not too difficult to get to. Thanks. I think that is what I read about when I used the search feature. The resisters that are behind the glove box? I read the 'fix' someone used for splicing the broken wires back together. I will tackle...

Re: Windows, doors and interior light.
good to hear...my drivers side...well all my windows are hell to crank. so all you done was take loose the panel and spray the regulator and crank assembly with lube and it fixed it? Yes, the window required all my strength and I was afraid the handle would break. It now feels almost new. A really ...

Re: Windows, doors and interior light.
Listen - we all learn from each other. There are a LOT of mechanically innocent men out there - two of them are my sons-in-law...you wouldn't believe how... I liked your note about finding how it easier to remove the trim strip first - we have a FSM  I would also clean the clean the channels ...

Heater switch question
I have noticed that the 4 speed switch in my car only works in the two highest speeds. I have not attempted to get at the switch...yet....I have a bad back and I would like to avoid 'under dash acrobatics' if possible. Could this be a matter of contact cleaning or are these things prone to old age f...

Windows, doors and interior light.
Ongoing 'fix-it' stuff. When I got the car the drivers side window was almost impossible to raise or lower and the passenger door would refuse to open from the outer handle often. Also the dome light wasn't working. The drivers window was first priority as I have to physically hand my ID to the Gate...

Re: Update on work accomplished
I just got an e-mail from Firestone/Bridgestone. They told me they were forwarding my post to the Divisional Office so they could contact me personally. That ought to be entertaining. It just occured to me that perhaps I should call the BBB and see what they have to say about Firestone. That could a...

Re: Update on work accomplished
Oh, by fluids I meant the transmission and differential. The brakes were bled and adjusted and the brake fluid topped off. The engine oil and filter were were done too. This afternoon I sanded the rust spots and put Naval Jelly on them. Then rinsed and eventually covered them with primer. It will st...
