Re: nissan axxess?
The Stanza was a vehicle he looked at in addition to the Tercel, but it was in Arizona and he was trying to figure out if it was too vanlike (big).

Re: Zach's 1985 Toyota Tercel DLX Hatchback
I'm 4'10" and what happened was I grounded the electricity across my forearm. I will probably wear gloves next time, but because I'm so short, I will still have to be pressed against the car so I hope my gloves are sufficient. I inspected the cap for carbon tracks and did not see any (I have se...

It doesn't have any place to screw down with. Will a cable tie work, or does it need some kind of metal-to-metal contact? I really do not wish to be shocked again!irowiki wrote:that might be why it shocked you. It should be screwed down with one of the dizzy cap screws

Re: Zach's 1985 Toyota Tercel DLX Hatchback
I'm probably going to replace the cap and rotor. I will look at it as well. Should the distributor condenser just be dangling off to the side? And where can I get a new one? I'm having to balance costs against my intense fear of the very uncomfortable shock I got. I have never received such rude pun...

Re: Zach's 1985 Toyota Tercel DLX Hatchback
I decided today to experiment with the ignition timing. I had no one else with me, so this consisted of me turning the dist, getting in the car, starting it, and then getting out and adjusting it some more because it would stall after about a second of running unless my foot was pushing the gas. Ove...

Re: Zach's 1985 Toyota Tercel DLX Hatchback
I decided to get an atomic fuel pump since the tercel spends a lot of time sitting. Because of this, I have been having to jump-start it when I can work on it, because it doesn't mechanically pull up the fuel fast enough. Once I can check timing and get it running right, I'm going to set it up. Hope...

I got the caps on it but couldn't get it started as it had sat for a few days and I haven't run it enough to recharge the battery.

Re: Zach's 1985 Toyota Tercel DLX Hatchback
when you say misfiring when you let off the gas, do you mean backfire? that could be a vacuum leak, running rich, or bad ignition timing. Nah, it's not backfiring. I think I would notice that a little, what with no pipe after the cat! I mean it runs really rough and then if I let off too much it st...

Re: Zach's 1985 Toyota Tercel DLX Hatchback
Got it to run! It is misfiring if I let off the gas. I believe I have a vacuum leak. I was finally able to start it by jumpstarting after using a hand vacuum pump to suck gas up to the carb. I made extra-sure by pumping until the gasoline kinda spewed out the back of the pump, after which point the ...

Re: intro and my new wagon
Their is no need to remove the drive line unless it's an automatic transmission cat!! Yeah I keep forgetting a lot of Tercels are manual, I'm used to automatics being the general rule rather than the exception. I know the differentials are fine with rolling, and I keep forgetting that manuals don't...

Re: Tercel Towing Capacity?
The reason for it being "universal" is that it's not uncommon for cars to have the same platform and therefor share a lot of their framework. The cars that share the hitch are probably on the same platform.
