How to Replace a Head Gasket: Petros method

How to Replace the Head Gasket on the 3AC Engine The Toyota 3a head gasket is particularly prone to being damaged from even minor overheating events, you do not even have to get the temperature into the red zone on the temp gauge to damage the head gasket. Also if you have done any performance mods...

Re: Looking for a transmission

The auto tran in the local pull-a-part has now gone to the crusher, I stopped in and checked it today. Auto trans versions are not very common, so this 4wd trans will be harder to find than the manual trans. My suggestion is the same as St6fan, get a donor car and switch it over to manual trans. Mor...

Re: The lament of my red T4WD

A most unfortunate story. Most cities will send you a notice to move the car or have it impounded. they do this so the streets do not collect a lot of junk cars, but it seems a warning should be in order, or a parking ticket at least. Just an expensive tow without so much as a warning? Who would ste...

Re: Can you help me identify this part

Unless there is some kind of state inspection you have to pass the car will run fine just the way it is. I have disabled my heat riser tube (it draws warm air from the exhaust manifold) to keep the intake air within a narrow temperature range, assisting in keep emissions lower. But warm air on the i...

Re: Urgh. Overheat.

check or replace your thermostat, it should be replaced every two years anyway. Buy the best quality you can get, NAPA and Autozone usually off a premium t-stat for about $17-20, well worth it in my experience. You might replace your radiator cap, or take to Autozone and have it tested (they usually...

Re: Tercel Pr0n! *pics* (Also Wal-Mart wrangling)

A lot of common media myths are being shown here, manufacturing jobs in the USA have been about 20 percent of the total jobs (plus or minus about 2 percent) for the last 100 years. this is still true today, we have a higher standard of living, and have for at least 100 years, so all the new-technolo...

Re: Looking for a transmission

There is one in a wrecking yard here in Arlington, WA. It is a self-service yard, so if you get it yourself it would be inexpensive, the car only has about 80,000 miles on it too. You need to move on it pretty fast because it has been there for a number of months and it will be going to the crusher ...

Re: Rear brake hose part #?

Snyth told me that he had seen an early '83 (manufactured in '82) that used a single hose. So it is interestign that Danzo has an '86 with a single rear flex hose. This is especially odd since the duel hose system was likely a federal requirement for brake safety using some kind of cross over duel s...

Re: Rear brake hose part #?

most of the Tercel4wd have two flex hoses to the rear axle, but as Danzo points out, and other have experienced, there are some Trecels with only one flex hose to the rear axle. He wanted to know if they are the same, it appears the left and right hose of a two flex hose brake system are not the sam...

Re: '84 SR5 w/4ac engine $2200 Everett WA

Tercel4wdrules would be the expert on current CA emissions laws, he lives in the LA basin, which might be even more strict than elsewhere in the state. When I lived there you could swap engines as long as all the emissions equipment from the original car is installed in the new car. You could even t...

Re: '84 SR5 w/4ac engine $2200 Everett WA

Yes, Washington state for the high density population areas (including Everett) must pass emissions inspections every two years to get it registured, until they are 25 years old. So this one did pass Emissions within the last two years. Now it would be exempt. you might have another issue, this has ...

Re: Tercel Pr0n! *pics*

common you guys, drop the hi-jacked wal-mart rant. If the employees do not like it they are free to quite, if people did not buy the cheap china made stuff they would not exist. So it is not Wal-mart's fault that people like buying cheap china made junk, they are just doing what their customer want....

Re: 1985 4WD Tercel Wagon for sale

That sounds like an excellent buy, even with the minor issues. If no one on the list is interested we might be able to work something out. I can come down drive back here to sell it, where they are still popular and fairly common.

Can you post some pictures of it here on the Tercel list?

Re: Lifts, Front spring and hat options

Camary spring rate is 230 lb/in. Less than the stock Tercel4wd front spring at 250 lb/in, which would explain why they reduce the understeer (less stiff in the front reduces weight transfer and reduces understeer). IT is longer of course and accounts for the extra height, but I noticed that your T4w...
