Re: Break the Brakes?

When masters are starting to go, You can usually get a good pedal with one quick stab at the pedal. Tis sudden burst of pressure can temporariliy make a weak seal push harder against the bore. When released even slightly the pedal will then usually do it's drop. Check for leaks/bleed before you shot...

Re: Tercel Bucks and Dies under load

I'm not sure about the DGES but the DGEV takes half that fuel pressure. I would also verify what your pressure really is with a gauge. Fuel filter good? Can you see if it's full of gas? If it's not full or very close to it, it might be clogged or might have a restriction between filter and the picku...

Re: Canadian Doughnuts

Keep an eye on those metal ones. they like to walk around.... Say, in another post you mentioned passing thru Minnesota on a big road trip. If you are passing by the twin cities and your car has air conditioning but needs a charge, I can set you up cheap. No R134 retrofitting here for your classic e...

Re: Axle - or - Differential Problem ?

The "one wheel wonder" is often due to brakes drag differences and driveline dynamics take part too. Hopefully just pads stuck in the bracket and not a sticky piston. Or it's just normal..... I see this almost every time when checking wheel bearings. Which is your next step. Use a mech's s...

Re: Canadian Doughnuts

I think going on top gives a little more boost. It also puts the least amount of stress on the coil springs while allowing the whole coil to "work". Sway bar needed to be unbolted from axle for extra drop and it's still a stretch getting the springs back in. Brake cable brakets on floor ha...

Re: Canadian Doughnuts

They work. I've got them on top of both my cars rear springs. They have to be cut slightly to match the diameter of the spring/pocket. Once installed they aren't going anywhere.

I don't like the metal adjustable ones. They always move around/fall out.

Kinda silly question asking if I use 14 inch rims with 14 inch tires. :?

The MR2 rim dimensions are 14x5.5 with 39mm offset.

The mostly worn 185-80-13's on my 84 are at least an inch shorter than the new 195-70-14's

Re: My twins

It is mostly the tires. The back tires of the one on the right are on a higher surface so the front bumper is extra low. 195-70-14's are HUGE compared to stock 13's. You would laugh when placed side to side. When installed you might even intimidate others as much as this guy and his ride http://www....

Re: 195x75x14 tires

I'm using early MR2 "three spoke" alloys. Perfect fit and I like the looks. Just got another set of tires for my "new" 85 today. Same tires, same store. Only buy 3 get 1 free! First time I've bought brand new tires for a car that doesn't drive. I just happen to have another ...

Re: best place for cv joints/boots

I recently put a new oreilly's axle in. As good or maybe slightly better than GSP, time will tell.... I did have to remove the outer dust shield though. Might have been able to modify it to work but I was in a hurry. I was going out of town right after install. For the price of axles vs boots and th...

Re: 195x75x14 tires

I've got 195-70-14's on my 85 with no rub. I would think minimal to no trimming needed for 75's.

Shaved off 200 rpm's on the highway too.

Make sure to calibrate yourself to speedo error or you will find out the hard way.

Re: Early vs. later transmission longevity?

The torque of a diesel could push highway gears but, higher gears in the 83-84's will put more stress on the trans which may not like that extra torque. It's harder for a trans to turn 3.73 gears than 4.10 Think of a longer lever... Any way you look at it,old or new T4wd, with a torque increase you ...
