Re: PCV - Whats it do?
It is a Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve or PCV Valve for short. This is the short explanation.... As a gasoline engine runs, high pressures build up in the cylinders and that pressure is contained within those cylinders. As an engine ages and the piston rings become worn some of the gasses crea...

This is waaay off-topic, but since the gauntlet was thrown.....I think that folks are just accustomed to using nom de Nets - or want to express some personalization; Tom M. Tom, I guess at the age of 63 (add another in a month) I am too old to appreciate new customs. I'm stuck in the '60s when life...

Re: Slotted Rotors?
Ron.....Are you sure a terc or the majority of members here aren't beneath you?..... I really don't know what to make of that question nor the intention of it. Would you care to elaborate? I consider myself kind of a "foster parent" to orphaned cars. How many people do you know that will ...

Re: Slotted Rotors?
.....To be fair I have installed hundreds of chinese rotors with a high degree off success. They aren't much worse than OE at a fraction of the price. Numerous vehicles in the last 10 years that I have serviced have needed rotors before pads on their very first brake job..... .....How are the ATE r...

Re: Slotted Rotors?
Be careful with inexpensive rotors and pads that you see on eBay. The rotors are more than likely made in China and machined in the US or Canada. Are they tested when they are manufactured in China or after they are modified? Do they meet US DOT standards? In normal circumstances drilled and/or slot...

Re: Anybody ever seen one of these?!
I bought a new '83 Tercel SR5 Wagon in the Spring of '83 and I replaced it with a new '87 SR5 4Runner which was actually the first one sold in North America for that year. The serial number was 100000. It was a really nice looking truck, black with port-installed graphics, alloy wheels and gray clot...

I was looking into other cars on-line then I notice Tercel 4Wd in France or some where in Europe , there a switch located below from rear defroster switch , what is that for ..... I have a German "Der Tercel Allrad" brochure and it shows the switch in a photo. As Kumppari stated, the swit...

Also i'm gonna be the youngest one there. I turned 20 today. ha Oh my God! I remember when I was 20. My new car was a few months old and I was waiting to be drafted. The car was a '65 Ford Galaxie 500XL, a real chick magnet. http://www.flickr.com/photos/rblachut/sets/72157605058362913/ It worked ve...

I'm going with the plumber's grease on the bushing and seat and some trans oil in the bottom of the case. Current prices from Butler: Boot - $7.91; Seat $10.40; bushing $3.69. It might be practical to give the boot an annual spray with silicone for protection. Thanks to all for opinions! Tom M. I w...

Re: My '84's Storied Past.....and Present!
Very nice Tercel indeed!! ;) I wonder how far Mr. Paladin has driven the Tercel, i.e. how many states he visited using that car, if he did, and if his last name is German because it sounds it! Also Lake George is Georgensee in German! ;) Thanks for the compliment regarding the car. David Paladin wa...
