Trans/half shaft rumbling solved
My Terc had a rumbling or thrumming noise when accelerating between 2500 & 3000 rpm. It was most apparent in 3rd and 4th gears on quiet pavement. It was getting noisier. The noise did not seem to be the transaxle because draining gear oil and pulling the diff cover revealed no problems and switc...

TVSV and drivability
I discovered a fixable failure in a TVSV yesterday! They leak between the brass base and the plastic tower. If you put them in water and blow through the "N" pipe (lowest) you will see bubbles come from between the base and the plastic. It will also not hold vacuum if you plug the other po...

Re: Replace Heater Core
It was $50 from O'Rielly's which seems like a good deal. They had it one store and just brought it over (not a special order).

Re: Replace Heater Core
Reinstalling the whole mess is not too bad. The first thing is that the heater core has foam padding on the sides and the ends. the photo below shows it bare so it would rattle around if installed like this. It needs adhesive weather strip on both ends and the sides to hold it in place and to keep a...

Re: Replace Heater Core
A very cool thing about the Tercel heater core is that it just slides in and out of the heater box. It's held in by a single screw and a clip. http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn233/shawnsci/Tercel4wd/heater%20core/IMG_1738_zps4c828693.jpg I also did a couple things to reduce rattles and make the ...

Replace Heater Core
I replaced the heater core today on my old '83 that is now owned by friends. If you want to do it you should know that the first step is to remove the passenger seat (left hand drive cars) . The good news is that you do not have to remove the crash pad, steering wheel, gauges, windshield or engine t...

Re: Triple Threat!
Yes, I think the body color window frames are DLX only. I didn't much like the black window frames or the wider SR5 belt-line trim much (or the holes for it - the narrow DLX trim has no holes), but I've gotten used to it. The other thing that is weird it that the sqeegee trim at the bottom of the ro...

Hmmm! OK, I think I'd accidentally made it private. It should work now.

Re: Tercel Names
My cars were always called what they were: "Truck", "Mustang", "Mini", "Healey", etc. My first car with a name was a sad looking, but particularly useful Mazda GLC wagon named "AngstWagen" by friends in honor of a depressed German gradstudent who'd s...

Re: Triple Threat!
No workee ? ? They all work - is that what you mean? She brought the '83 over because I had picked up a left front marker light and I installed it for her. Her car had been stolen and joy ridden into a ditch breaking the marker light. Apparently the drivers side was under water (there was sticks an...

Re: Frustrated with poor running Tercel today
My first thought was bad accelerator pump but swapping carbs would probably take care of the that. But you might check this - if the connections to the carb fuel cut solenoids are switched it will create a vacuum leak at idle and low rpm. And I had nearly identical symptoms when I failed to reconnec...

Triple Threat!
My friend came over and parked behind the other Tercels while I was changing oil on the sunroof car. She took a picture. http://tercel4wd.com/upload/files/568_xhvaf/TripleThreatCrop.jpg Right click to view image to see the whole mess!
