Nice trip.
I like the tercel tent idea, works great with the canoe.
I have done a few nights in the tercel and I'm 6'1, no problems.
I call it Chateau Tercel.

That's interesting abvout the igniter recall. I replaced mine a few years ago. Can I check to see if it was ever done on recall and if not does Toyota owe me the cost of the replacement?

Why not pick an interesting colour to paint your tercel. Mine was gold and I found it particularly ugly, so I went with orange (bright tangerine it's called, also seen on mustangs). I never lose it in a parking lot and people see me all over in it.

I had replaced the cv axles once already. Then I put about a hundred thousand kms on them (60k miles). Then came the lift and they were making some noise so I replaced them. Maybe a couple of hundred CDN$. Apparently jeep cherokee springs will fit in the back. Could be a good way to lift the back en...

I made a spacer from a rubber donut spring spacer. I just cut off the top and bottom groove off with a sharp knife. Careful when doing this, go slow and take your time and you won't chop off any fingers. A vice can be helpful to hold onto it sometimes. Basically you end up with a big rubber split wa...

I'm interested but I am in Calgary.
My dad is in Van so he could check it out for me.
Please PM me if you still have it.

the rims are from a dodge caravan/plymouth voyager at the wreckers. Some of those vans have 5 bolt rims but I found these 4 bolt (100mm) aluminum rims and got em. The tires are 205/70/14 predators. I have about 1.5 inches of lift in there to accommodate the tires. At full turning lock there is a lit...

Thanks again. That's interesting about the gas being worse than the oil. Had an old 78 corolla that sat and it's carb seized. Cranking it over with ignition disabled, that's just to get oil moving around before firing right? After sitting for a month or more the plymouth usually takes a lot of crank...

Thanks for all the input. I was asking with regards to a couple of vehicles besides the tercel which I change the oil each 5000km or so. My old plymouth sits a lot and I've changed the oil maybe once each year or two. I started it last night after not running it for 3-4 months. It was a bit rough at...

oil changes?

How often would you change the oil in a car that isn't regularly driven. I've heard about oil deteriorating over time but how long does it take?
How about a seasonally driven vehicle that sits in winter?
Anybody got the dirt on changing out clean but old oil?

The blue tercel is in Calgary, it is quite rusty, unlike yours. I was in Halifax last year and I saw a tercel in decent shape. It was painted mat black. Sorta stealth looking but sorta ugly too. I did see a mat dark green tercel (army style) going the opposite direction on the hiway a while ago. We ...

could it be a faulty water pump or thermostat related? Or could it be that the heater core fins are clogged with dust or other crud? Maybe you can get in there somewhere with compressed air and see what flies out.
I'd be interested to hear what it is. My heater doesn't have much kick.

I've seen just one in dark blue, looks like it's the original color. I also like them in lime green, or purple. But then I also have a thing for mine in bright orange. All I know is I couldn't stand the original gold colour. I drove for a year or so like that until I painted mine. I saw one with som...
