Re: 1984 super clean 4wd deluxe Wagon for sale

that is indeed an incredible example.
Winnipeg is only a $300 plane ride and a 23hr return drive.
Not unreasonable for such a cherry, still waiting to hear pricing though.

Re: Thinkin of fishin

Splat - I am so jealous, I haven't made it out yet this year and its been a banner year. Cold and tons of ice. Petros - general rule of thumb (min's) is 4in for walking, 5in for sled/atv and 8in for small cars/trucks And if you're going with minimum numbers, you'll want to spud your way out. It is n...

Re: Catalytic converter

If the square holes all appear good, then shine a strong flashlight/trouble light in from one end, the other end should show diffused light, like you can see it but it isn't clear, then you should be good to go. OEM cat's are better built, have more precious metals and will last longer than any A/M ...

Re: I Smell Burning: Short circuit overnight

Hopefully you got sorted out but in case you didn't, there is supposed to be a fusible link box on the positive post of the battery, they are known for causing grief similar to what you stated. Not enough to take the top off and look, many have had fried innards and only visible from the underside.

Re: Odd PS "Leak/absorption" ?

Tom - the other place that PS fluid can disappear to, is inside the rack boots, when the rack end seals fail, fluid will leak into the boot, if the boot seal is good they can fill up like a balloon.
Each boot can hold upwards of a cup of fluid.

Re: Gas tank for 4wd dlx wagon

4WD spectra tanks have been gone for a nearternity, anything left kicking around will most likely be 2WD spec only. The only real solution would be pulling stock out of the rust-free USA (bearing in mind that no one will ship a used fuel tank) Option 2 is having yours rebuilt at a rad shop. They wil...

Re: FWD 4 speed to 5 speed conversion question

I don't have ratio specs in front of me to confirm that, but generally speaking, yes, 1-4 are same, 5th is an overdrive.
It wouldn't make any economical/engineering sense for manufacturers to do otherwise.

Re: FWD 4 speed to 5 speed conversion question

Swapping to a 5spd won't help off the line performance, but it will drop RPM's on the highway, 5th is just 85% of 4th.
Sadly, there are no performance parts for the trannies and they are not compatible with any other cars

Re: my post-tercel vehicle adventures

Great to hear from you David. Sounds like life has been interesting. We had a 2nd gen Rav 4 (4cyl/5spd), solid vehicle all around, I wasn't a fan of the cross mount as It complicates servicing, but such is life. It was as reliable as they come. When rust took my last T4, I replaced it with a Suzuki ...
