Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

Well, it seems my previous post did not go through. But hopefully this will be the last time I ever have to post into this specific thread. I did my break-in oil change at around 300 miles. I also retorqued the head. I cut the oil filter apart (poorly, I'll admit) and I did not find any metal partic...

Re: DNJ stock pistons, pins and rings

No problem! I hope it works out too.
Be sure to send me a picture if you get it working or repaired!

Re: help, please! issues with my new (to me) FWD ‘88 EZ

One thing to note. if you get the tires replaced by the shop you're currently dealing with, the tires should be balanced after they're installed on the wheel. That's standard for a tire replacement. So if the problem persists, I would rule out improperly balanced tires. Old tires, especially worn ou...

Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

Thank you so much! I will do this tomorrow and hope for the best!

Edit: worked perfectly! I won't lie, it's not as pretty of a job as I would like, but it's not leaking!
Now I just have to change out the CV shaft seals and it should be leak free!
Thanks again everyone!

Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

Dound the leak! Unfortunately it's not the pan bolts... My pan must have been rusted a little thin and when I cleaned it up, it poked a hole in it. Think I could get away with cleaning it up and coating a thick layer of RTV or QBond or something of the like? Would really hate to pull the engine agai...

Re: Time for a roof rack.

The roof rack on mine is the rain gutter mounts that were off of an old van. They can be removed pretty easily by just spinning off the four end caps and lifting the entire thing off as a whole. Just an option if you have difficulties finding any bars that fit the car. The basket is rated for 250lbs...

Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

Well guys, yesterday was the big day. I finally got it all buttoned up, filled up with fluids and it fired right up! (After leaving the dizzy unhooked for 1 minute-ish to cycle some oil around) I took it for a 35ish mile test drive. It seems to run great, has a decently quick oil leak around the pas...

Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

Thank you! I was trying to do some research today for priming the pump but could not find anything. I was going to dig through the manual if I could not find anything on here. I will most definitely be doing that. I am going to to cut apart the filter too and see if there's any major metal going thr...

Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

I kind of figured driving the vehicle hard would be a good way to seat the rings. Hopefully I don't have to do a ton of tuning work right off the bat when I fire it up. Do you think it's worth adding a break-in oil since it has new bearings, pistons and rings? Or just run regular oil and change it s...

Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

Got most of the engine reassembled! I unfortunately broke one of the piston rings when rolling them on. I had the oil rings and 2nd rings already installed. Finally opened the top ring packet and the first one I rolled on snapped in half. :( Thankfully another set was only $13.49 for another set. I ...

Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

I just got back inside from disassembling the engine. I will swing back to the garage in a little bit and try what you had mentioned Petros. I do have a few other questions. First thing, the manual states that there is 3 standard size bearings. My bearings that came in my DNJ kit do not appear to ha...

Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

I picked up a few extra bolts from Menards. Both for lifting the engine out and 4 more for an engine stand. The engine is currently out and most of the way apart. Tomorrow I am going to mark up the caps and block with a punch and get the engine apart and carefully laid out on a table. Along with che...

Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

I would rather pull just the engine and leave the trans installed. This may be a little bit of a dumb question, but it I remove the head and all the accessories prior to removing the engine, could I use a hoist and some straps with head bolts in the block to lift the engine? Or is there a better spo...

Re: Fresh Weber and head replacement - oil weaping from exhaust?

I did a bit of searching for a 4A engine on car-part.com and cannot find one for under $500 that's less than a 5 hour drive. I think I'm going to go the route of having the machine shop match the pistons. I ordered some .020 pistons and rings on eBay yesterday for $48. Another gasket kit from DNJ is...
