Re: Hello from Yakima WA, Meet Mr. T
Cool Tercel! Being jealous of the SR5 seats you guys got in the US, I've actually considered doing exactly what you did, find a nice set of Supra MK 2 seats in brown/tan for my Tercel. I never really investigated further, figuring I didn't need the hassle of fabricating mounting brackets. But seeing...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
Thanks for the insight Petros. I'm not having any cold start issues at all after replacing all vacuum lines earlier this year. Now that the ambient temperature is in a "normal" range for my region (and the region where I bought the car) it fires up just fine. The problem lies strictly in c...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
I've been quietly lurking here, but not much to report. I do have a question with regards to the choke coil. Earlier in this topic I posted about my choke not closing as it's supposed to. I bought a spare carb and rebuild kit, but in the meantime the problem sorted itself out, well kind of. I notice...

Re: Choke won't close
During my daily spritz of carb cleaner whilst moving the choke valve, I noticed it slowly closing if I hold down the throttle for a good 5 seconds, so it looks like some gunk hiding in the pivot points may be the culprit after all. The carb looks easy enough to remove, but the rebuild kit and spare ...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
Very nice looking Tercel, love the interior/exterior color combo, and what a gorgeous interior! First gen MR2 wheels are the perfect era-correct upgrade, IMO. Also dig the stickers on the Land Cruiser, the sea blue/white 21w in the background...I have owned around 50 split windows in my day ;). My ...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
Might as well "update" this thread whilst lurking around the forums, MR2 wheels installed.

Re: Choke won't close
Thanks for the tip Petros. Looks like something I'd want to do on the bench rather than contorting my 6'6" frame into the engine bay. There's no way I'm removing the carb without destroying the old intake gasket, so I'll just try a daily spray of carb cleaner on the choke pivots with the valve ...

Choke won't close
Now that it's summer, I've been driving several of my cars which means the Tercel will sit for a while from time to time. It wouildn't start and I quickly noticed the choke wasn't closing after two pumps of the throttle. Blasted the hinges of the choke valve with some carb cleaner and that did the t...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
What I wouldn't give for one of those aluminium racing versions you describe, they were called the GTA and most were sold to customers with racing intentions. Preparation was largely done by Autodelta, Alfa Romeo's racing arm. Crazy setups with pop riveted aluminium bodies, magnesium engine castings...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
Durability was part of the test for the new Falkens, the predecessor was tested five years back and scored significantly worse. Falken seems to be one of those brands that continues to improve. These are annual tests held by the German ADAC, in my opinion the best independent tire reviews in Europe....

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
Well, the Tercel tinkering got a little bit sidetracked by my silly idea to "quickly" get my Alfa GTV6 back on the road after sitting for 5+ years. No such thing with fickle Italian cars of course, but she's ready now: https://i.imgur.com/DaFjdQd.jpg Put the Tercel up on the lift yesterday...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
@Mattel: I checked out that link but there doesn't seem to be much activity there these days. Currently I'm looking for the part number of the rubber mounts between the airbox and valve cover, I can't seem to find it in the EPC. Mine are dry and falling apart. Any ideas? https://i.imgur.com/AHJHZlx....

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
Didn't get around to tracing the decal yet. Sanded down and painted the set of MR2 wheels I bought. They came out nice:

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
I'll probably do it myself in Illustrator and have some made up. The used font seems to be a bit wider than the "standard" Toyota all caps font. I will trace along the original, scan to 1:1 scale and probably stretching a vectorized Toyota logo from Brands of the world to similar dimension...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
Got a rust free rear hatch, nasty little dent on the bottom edge though, will need some work before paint. I was also looking for 2 sets of 14" wheels, one for AT tires and one for summer tires. https://i.imgur.com/lXNFm4H.jpg Managed to find a set of rare Speedlines for the VW Golf II Country ...
