Re: No crank
I've had the exact same issue. One time it was actually a bad battery. The other times were a bad positive cable terminal end.

Re: The Party Wagon engine swap thread
I assume you have the regular 1/2" drive ratchet, but they have a pricey one that has a lot more internal teeth and if you thought the regular one was smooth, this one ratchets like a dream!!

Re: The Party Wagon engine swap thread
Resist the temptation to loosen the nut off of the stud. Just tighten it as one unit when you put it back together, same thing has happened to me before.

Re: First $500 gets good running 83 tercel SR5
I believe the CA trip permit allows you one continuous trip... this is from the CA DMV website: "A One Trip Permit (REG 402) is available from the department and may be used in lieu of California registration for movement of any vehicle except a crane. The permit must be posted on the windshiel...

Keith... The Corolla with the 1ZZ-FE engine has a single row timing chain, I saw inside one the other day when the valve cover was off. Many Corollas with this engine still have the original chain well past 200k miles. They seem to be fairly reliable.

Re: new member in Fargo w 86 4WD SR5
The '86 SR5 I used to have was built in July of 1985. You just need to check the 10th digit of the VIN. If it's a D it's an '83, E is an '84, F is an '85, G is an '86 and so forth. From the picture of the seats you provided it has the '86 SR5 pattern seats.

Steelhead recyclers. They're out in Goleta, CA. I visited their yard once. Some stuff was a little overpriced.

Re: Want to Buy 1985-1988 SR5 4WD Tercel Wagon
I have driven both as well and I can confirm that driving in hilly areas will be more enjoyable with the 4.11. The 4.11 with a stock engine feels better when accelerating in 5th gear and also overall better response when you have passengers/cargo, but it is noisier when cruising at 70+ mph. A member...

Re: carberator
It seems to me like your chances of passing the ASM dyno test are higher if you have your base timing set around 4* BTDC. I had one of my cars run with advanced timing on the dyno test and HC & NOx were high. What were the other gas readings @ 15 MPH? Vacuum leaks can cause high HC & high NO...

Re: First $500 gets good running 83 tercel SR5
Seems to me like it failed because the idle rpm was too high... Usually that means over 1000 rpm. Lower it down to 800 or so and it should pass.
