Parting out junker car in Pennsylvania

My 84 SR5 parts car needs to have something done with it...my mother keeps bitching about it...and everything else...it was given to me several years ago by somebody else on these forums. It was already in a wrecked/junk state when i got it then i brought it back to life enough to use it as a get-dr...

Re: The Air Conditioning thread...

You basically have to totally flush and clean the entire system out and replace the oil for it to work properly converting from 12 to 134a...the 2 refrigerants themselves do not mix together, and they both use different oils. but propane does mix with r12 and r12 mineral oil. 134a is also less effic...

WTB: Colt Vista 4x4

This is next on my wish list...a 1987 Colt Vista...1987 because it was the first year for EFI and the last year for square headlights. With A/C & preferably Power windows...and no rust. Engine problems would be OK & don't scare me. I really like the Vista for the same reasons i like the Terc...

NADA sucks, i say... National Auto DEALERS Association...the red flag is in the name...of course they are going to rate the price as absurdly high as they can... KBB is more realistic. That and everybody trying to sell one thinks they have a cash cow now after Breaking Bad...

I owned my Tercel before i ever became aware of Breaking Bad...however the only reason i started watching it was because of Jessies Tercel...i now consider it one of my favorite shows.

Re: The Air Conditioning thread...

Yes, R134a is the standard here in the US now. However it is not totally ozone depleting...it still does just less than R12 did. I hear talks about the industry moving to carbon dioxide as a refrigerant...however that works at extremely high pressures and is less mechanically efficient than 134a...w...

Re: The Air Conditioning thread...

I have a few cans of the real stuff stashed as well that i managed to score for free...but im saving that for if i find a fridge or a window A/C that i want to keep going...otherwise im sold on propane...legal & flammability issues aside, its a great functional replacement, mixes with existing R...

Re: The Air Conditioning thread...

That probably is the best plan. It is pricy but looking on Ebay, R12 mineral oil isnt that much more expensive than synthetic gear oil...and id use so little of it in these projects that its probably worth just using the proper stuff...that and the R290 is already a wildcard to deal with. Still cant...

about a year ago my AC compressor seemingly locked up whilst using the defroster last winter...smoke came out from under hood from the AC clutch (i think), took the belt off on the side of the road and haven't messed with it til now. Performed an autopsy of the compressor today and found several int...

Leak fixing...worth the bother?

I have a couple small leaks in the the automatic T4 and my AC compressor locked up about a year ago...as far as the leaks, it leaks oil and antifreeze a little bit...i believe the oil is coming from both the camshaft seal and the main front crank seal...its not terrible...i just check it and add a l...
