Re: New engine running hotter
The engine is running good now. Has 83K on it. Compression is 175 175 175 175.
I was all set to adjust the valves, but they were already 008 and 012.
There is a puff of white smoke in the morning, so I bought some valve stem seals at Rockauto.

Re: New engine running hotter
New thermostat fixed it.
The cooling system seemed to be working OK with the old one, but it ran just a fraction hotter when it was warmed up.

New engine running hotter
I just installed a newer 3A engine in my SR5, and the temperature gauge says it is running hotter than the old one. I set the timing to 9 degrees BTDC. I purged the cooling system and it has probably 60/40 distilled water/antifreeze. I am using the temperature sender that came with the engine, but I...

Do you use a load balancer when pulling engine?
I am prepping an engine swap and I was planning on renting a load balancer to adjust the engine angle. But since a line between the engine hooks isn't parallel with the crankshaft, adjusting a load balancer is also going to shift the engine left or right. Does it work anyway? What is the best way to...

Re: Thoughts on how to wire up a TEMP warning light?
This is a Comparator Module that I bought on ebay. It is available from many sources, with a few types of connectors. I got this one with terminal blocks (which barely accept 18ga wire). The circuit board should say DT-110. I already had a wiring harness hooked up for the one I made, and I connecte...

Re: Thoughts on how to wire up a TEMP warning light?
This is how the module is hooked up.
I'm using the triangle as a symbol for the whole module, which includes a LM393 comparator and some other components.

Re: Thoughts on how to wire up a TEMP warning light?
But after I started on this project, I found out that you can buy modules based on a similar chip.

Re: Thoughts on how to wire up a TEMP warning light?
I am using a LM311 chip, A 2N3906 transistor and a relay*. Setting the trigger point is done by adjusting a multiturn trimmer potentiometer (aka "pot") I also wired up a 50 ohm trimmer pot in series with a 20 ohm fixed resistor. To set the trigger point, I disconnect the sender connector a...

Re: Thoughts on how to wire up a TEMP warning light?
I wired my project up to Ground, switched 12v and the wire that goes from the sender to the gauge.

Instrument voltage limiter
Does the 4WD Tercel have a voltage regulator or voltage limiter for the gauges?
I don't see one in the wiring diagram.
