Re: R12 manifold gauge

A very generous fellow Arizonan & Tercel owner is kind enough to let me borrow his manifold gauge, and he has a spare set he is letting me keep! They are a bit weathered, so at the moment I am trying to find an HVAC shop who can perform a pressure test of the two manifold gauges, so I do not was...

Time for a return.
Glad it was as simple as replacing the fuel pump! What did you determine was making the fuel pump cause such a racket? Was it just that the fuel pump arm wasn't making proper contact with the cam?

Re: Front Sway bar bracket captive nut problem

I know that it is somewhat common to install rivet nuts without the proper tool; when doing so, how do you gauge when the rivet nut has been crimped enough in place to fully seat?

Re: Value Determination

@eightyfive4WD, did you have the paint done on yours recently? It looks really nice. I'm currently considering options on paint but I also may just give it a good wax and polish + ceramic coating for starters, assuming everything with the transaction goes well. Sorry for the very late reply, I did ...

Re: Seats from other Toyotas?

https://i.imgur.com/WJWuH8x.jpg Should be purchasing these AW11 MR2 seats in about a month! Going to road trip to pick them up, along with MR2 brake upgrade parts hopefully. I think these would fit right at home in the Tercel. I was attempting Tesla Model S seats mounted in my Tercel, but they are ...

Re: Front Sway bar bracket captive nut problem

Right now I'm thinking blind rivet nut or jack nut would probably be smarter than helicoil if the captive nut really is detached. I had to make a similar recent repair to my Tercel in the same location. A rivet nut tool worked out great in my case. I made a post detailing this on another forum, wit...

Beautiful Tercel, I'm sorry you have to sell it but I hope it finds a good home.

Re: R12 manifold gauge

I am still very much open to input from others on this matter, but I think I may end up purchasing the $60 Harbor Freight A/C manifold gauge set. I don't see any horror story reviews on the HF website like I did on no-name product reviews on Amazon, which is my main concern. I just don't want to fin...

R12 manifold gauge

Last summer, my kind Vietnam veteran neighbor assisted me with refilling my A/C system using his R12 tank. Unfortunately, his R12 manifold gauge developed a leak during the filling of the system and we aborted the process early. My Tercel's AC system itself is leak-free, after replacing all o-rings ...

Re: Removing tie rod ends

That's a neat approach!

For tie rod ends, I have always removed the castle nut, flipped it 180*, reinstalled a few threads back on the tie rod end and then give the tie rod a good whack. Usually frees up easily this way too.

There are many ways to skin a cat. Thanks for sharing your idea.

Re: Value Determination

All great points above. It really comes down to what you are willing to pay at the end of the day. But I can provide a bit of my experience in purchasing a Tercel recently: https://i.imgur.com/T2OqbRD.jpg I paid $3900 for my '85 4WD auto last January, in Arizona. I am the fourth owner. The car is 99...

Freeing a stuck heater control lever

This is not a difficult repair to perform by any means, but I figured it may be worthwhile to show with some photos for those who may not know how to perform this task. https://i.imgur.com/5yyhsDs.jpg Over time, the heater control lever in the cabin becomes sticky and difficult to move. Do not force...

Re: Drivability mystery problem - ignition timing

Dlb, those European & Japanese brochures from the 80s are really something, I love seeing all the features & aftermarket parts that were offered! For the moment I just have the louver attached to my back window with 3M double sided adhesive. It seems to be holding up quite well, although I a...
